Hi im new to these forums. which is usually the last thing you want to say on a forum if you want to refrain from being called a newb. i have 2 really good game ideas and have a complete idea of all aspects of both games, but the problem is im good with 3d studio max. but only mediocre when it comes to programming i have made minor programs to assist me in doing things on my computer but nothing as intimidating as a game engine. i can see what i would need to tell the computer to do in order to get things going but have no idea how to tell the computer what to go do with itself. what i really need is a place where i can explain both games in detail see if anyone is interested in helping me make them. im sure from the ideas that there will be someone as inspired as i am. i have put together everything to do with story, interface and functionality i just dont know what to do from there aside from spending the next few years learning how to program and trying to go it alone. which is to insane for me.. anyway if anyone could point me to were i can spill my video game guts. let me know thanks,

Hi and welcome. Depending on your precise needs and the tone you want to set for the discussion, you may consider the For Beginners, Visual Arts, Game Design or Help Wanted forums. And probably others too.

Please be sure to check the FAQs.

Welcome!
The forums on Game Design and Writting for Games should probably do fine, just dont expect everyone to praise your ideas [smile].

i just really would like a place were i can give a basic outline about the ideas i have. And get some feedback about the story and game interface. see if anyone is interested in helping me with making it. im willing to learn programming but i would prob be more usefull making 3d models. all i really want is feedback on my ideas. thanks alot for your help :P

Hi, we love new people! We do, however, prefer it when they abide by a couple of simple rules -

1) At least attempt to use semi-proper grammar and punctuation. When you begin a sentence with "I" it is capitalized.

2) Did you look over the forums, or did you just immediately post in the Lounge? If you'd looked over the forums you'd see that there is a Help Wanted Forum. That is where you should post. Be sure to read the sticky, take your time, and produce a solid help wanted post following the template. Also, take a peek at the Creative Writing and For Beginners forums and what is already there to help you out.

Good luck!

Feel free to play in the Lounge, but try to visit the other forums each time before you do. :)

To answer no I did not just come to this forum. I looked over all the other forum headings but didnt find one that suited what I wanted to say. So i entered the lounge to ask for direction. Secondly they are just ideas i just wanted feedback positive or negitive.

Anyway thanks for the info ill post my ideas when i have more time.

Welcome to the lounge, say good bye to any productivity you had before.

What's your secret?!!!

I don't know Sandbar, I didn't even notice the rating system till someone mentioned it in the #gamedev IRC room a couple days ago. I've started a few threads and got a GDNet+ membership to help support the community but that's about it. Maybe it's that mysterious masked figure in the top left of my reply boxes that appeal to people. [wink]

Anyway, to keep this thread's focus on mogmoogle:

mogmoogle, when did you get interested in game development? Was it a sudden flash of inspiration or a gradual experience? Cheers!

Those should fit into Game Design, although you'll find that people can be pretty blunt at times.

That'd be Help Wanted, where you must use the template found in one of the sticky threads. If you want good help you have to make your best effort to present yourself well, and to also present your idea(s) as well as you can. It's also highly beneficial to be able to offer something to the project yourself as well - ideas don't count - so the fact that you can model and know some basic programming (and are apparently willing to learn more) would be a help, particularly if you have any decent models to show off.

I would recommend you spend some time in Game Design before risking Help Wanted. That will give you an opportunity to patch your ideas before trying to pitch them to the Help Wanted crowd. And that way, you can point the inevitable naysayers to the threads where your ideas will have been discussed.
