I don't know how forum-appropriate this question is, but could someone explain to me how to implement incremental garbage collection. I'd like to make a language I've written more game/simulation-friendly by eliminating collection pauses, but I'm too dense to figure out anything beyond Mark & Sweep on my own. Thanks.

This page seems promising. It looks like it's meant to plug into a generational GC and be implemented when collection of higher generations becomes necessary.

And don't forget to fan out to the papers that they reference, as they may provide lots of useful hints themselves.
