I want to write an application that reads frames from my webcam and displays it. What is the easiest way of obtaining data from the driver programming in C under Windows XP. I'm having a hard time finding in the msdn jungle as I'm pretty new to this type of programming.

You wouldn't contact the driver directly, that could cause all sorts of issues.

I'm sure there is a win32 API for camera access, but I don't usually code in raw win32 so I wouldn't be sure what Im looking for.

I've never done something like that; but i think you should find some informations
about the VFW (Video For Windows); there is an include VFW.h somewhere :)

Okay thanks. So it can't be done like in unix? By just reading data from the device file?

Hint... If you need I can send you my webcam to texture in opengl functions.
