I am trying to debug one of the sample plugins usign 3DS Max 9 with Visual Studio 2005. The projects already have a hybrid build and I point the project to my 3dsmax.exe. When I run I immediately get: Debugging information for '3dsmax.exe' cannot be found or does not match. No symbols loaded. I swapped the output path to my empty 3dsmax plugins and the plugin apparently is loading because I get the error message box of duplicate plugin ID's but unfortunately no debugging information. My goal is to write my own exporter but I am stuck here for now.

Woops looks like I answered my own question. There's a symbol path in tools --> options --> debug to force the .pdb. Hopefully this thread might be useful to someone in the future!

That's not really the problem. It's just the 3DSMax doesn't contain debugging info, and it's just warning you about it (since when it starts the symbols in your plugin will not be loaded).

Btw, you can just start Max and do Tools->Attach To Process to debug it.
