Hello, Does anyone know what version (if any) can take an image from a serial attached SCSI hard drive? If none can, is there alternative software that can? I've got a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise x64 Sun X4100 that I need to clone so I have a redundant terminal server. Thanks a million to whoever helps :)

I can not say for certain, in my server I use SATA, but when I last looked, ghost can rip, restore or generally use a image on anything that you can normally access, e.g. if the boot file loads a scsi driver, it should be able to read the disk.

I can not say for 100% sure, but I think I remember doing a image of a scsi server a good 4-5 years ago... and I probably would of been using the latest version.

sorry I couldnt be more help, but I figured better than nothing!

In my experience Ghost is really fickle software. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Many times I've had problems with it telling me my images were corrupted and being unable to read them after it had just written them.

The *nix utility dd seemed to do what I wanted from any device and worked every time.

Most SCSI devices require an ASPI driver that is specific to that device or brand of device.
As long as you can get ghost to load the drivers it might work. And you might have to use a certain version. I know this since I tried to use an older version for ghost to see my nforce chipset and it bluescreened. Trying a newer version worked but was pretty slow.
Your best bet would be to download a trial version and see if it works in your particular case.
Oh and I noticed you mentioned this was for a windows server version. If that is the case I don't believe you can use the regular version of ghost since server OS aren't supported?

I don't have experience with SCSI devices, but I have had success with a Serial ATA hard drive (which seems to go through the same interface as SCSI in linux) using ntfsclone (I assume you use NTFS on your Windows Server box). You can find ntfsclone as part the ntfsprogs package. I personally used TRK 3.2 Beta 247 for this purpose.

[edit] If you are going to use something like the above, make sure you are aware of Windows' SID issues when cloning. You can either use sysprep or an SID changer such as NewSID. Note that this only applies if you want to restore the cloned partition to multiple computers.

I know about the SID problem. I use NewSID in all of our desktop images. I have a simple batch file that runs NewSID on first boot and then deletes NewSID and itself afterward.

I'll see what I can find on the linux front. I didn't even think of that *smacks forehead*

More generally, there is something called Partimage, which can be used for a variety of file systems (although you are better off with ntfsclone for NTFS). Clonezilla aims to be a network cloning system which uses partimage, ntfsclone, and a few other things to provide multicasting when restoring an image.
