I'm working on a game with the world and all its behaviors fully based inside of a database. Currently the game is room based and this works very well but is rather limited. What I'd like to do is make it coordinate based. What I'm thinking of is all objects will contain an origin point, which will correspond with the objects coordinate on the world map. The objects will also have length, width, height and orientation. The problem I have with this, similar to older graphics, is how to simulate a irregular object. An option is to link each object to a components table with the base object handling low precision relationships and the components working together to handle high precision relationships. I'm a little concerned about how efficient this will be though. Am I going the right direction with this idea or am I totally off as far as how to handle such a world? Thanks
