I have a DOS program that appears to have been written in QuickBasic. All of the printers are on the network. So I would like to write a program that basically captures LPT1, and write it to a file instead. The reason being that without Administrative Rights we cannot use NET USE to map LPT1. I also don't have the source for the executable, so I can't write a newer updated windows version of the utility. Thank you!

It certainly appears to be possible (and here's another), though certainly the latter appears to work by installing a special device driver (which again requires Admin rights). Have you tried looking for commercial solutions?

I have not really considered commercial solution. It would be for my workplace, and licensing and what not might be a hassle to toss up the corporate chain. I'd rather write something myself, to add features later on if need be.
