Its from the 3drealms job listing page on gamasutra. Its just a very small teaser pic, not a full screenshot. George Brussard confirmed that its an "in game shot" on shacknews. http://jobs.gamasutra.com/jobseekerx/ViewJob.asp?JobID=lGbTK9sBFoplaGJYXvtyNy17V4w&Keywords=3drealms Do I believe its real? I donno. I think so. Looks pretty good though. Edit: Yes its real, its in game, realtime (not a cutscene, not prerendered). Some background (why is this dinky little pic a big deal?): -Duke Nukem 3d was probably my all time favorite game. -Duke Nukem Forever (DNF) has been in development since 1998 or 1999. -3Drealms has completely scrapped the game and restarted several times since then. -Duke Nukem Forever is the most famous game that doesnt even exist because it is so notorioius for all its delays and restarts. -You can find numerous screenshots and videos of DNF on the web, but they are years old, and are not from the current version of the game. In otherwords they are meaningless. -If this shot is real then it is the very first peek at the real DNF in 6 years or something like that. [Edited by - AndreTheGiant on January 30, 2007 9:06:11 AM]

Honestly, hands up -- do we give a shit anymore?

The screenshot is SHOWING Duke. Logically, it's from a cutscene, not gameplay. So it's not particularly compelling.

Yes it is SHOWING Duke, but that doesnt necessarily mean its a cutscene. It also might be from multiplayer, or even a mirror (but I doubt this). Or it could be from a trailer theyre working on, which is still technically gameplay. And as I said, George Brussard confirmed that its an "in game shot" on shacknews. Logically, that means its an in game shot.

Keep in mind that Broussard also says that the game will be released.

It certainly looks pre-rendered to me.

Yeah, it wouldn't be at all the first time someone called a cutscene "in-game".

I can understand how you would want to, particularly if you have been developing the game for the last ten years and at least four or five near-complete rewrites.

After seeing Gears Of War I don't think it's unreasonable to say that could be a realtime shot.

Whether it'll be fun, or whether it'll be released this decade are an entirely different issue. [grin]

I dont know wether its pre-rendered or not. But if its not, Im sure 3dr take that as a big compliment.

From tidbits released on the 3drealms forums, Im lead to believe that DNF looks as good or even better than UE3.

Keep in mind that this shot was attached to a job posting for 3drealms. I think it would not be in their best intrest to mislead potential employees by showing them a fake shot, or claiming its something its not.

Only time will tell. My guess is a lot of time :)

From the tiny little shot that it is, I wouldn't say it was pre-rendered as Gears of War looks on par/prettier. So yea it could very well be in-game and not pre-rendered.

So who knows, maybe DNF will actually get released some time after all [wow] and I know that I'd love to work for 3DRealms.

Is it just me or is Duke's head a funny shape?

I don't say it's prerendered because it's nice-looking, but because it features the main character. It does look nice, of course, but anything will look nice if you scale it down that teeny and blur it some.

Damn right. After working for places with constant, crushing deadline pressure, that would be a breath of fresh air. Time to innovate and get things right.

duke is coming back;)

But, according to the piece, Broussard was bashful, overall, about showing off the game, commenting: "The problem is that when we show it, people are going to be like, 'Yeah, whatever'. Honestly, at this point we just want to finish it."

well.. unfortunately, I'm one of those who go "yeah, whatever" ;)

BTW cobru that article is almost a year old.

But its true though, no matter how good DNF is (and I personally think it will be pretty good), there are a lot of people who will just not be impressed no matter what. There are a lot of people out there who are just plain bitter against Duke/3Drealms. I think Duke must have ran over their cat and didnt apologise. Or stole their lunch money or something. Whatever the case, people have been jerked around by this company for so long that they'll just refuse to say that its a good game no matter what.

Anyway I dont know what to think. For all we know, this could be another stupid prank by 3drealms. They have pulled crap like that before. One time GB posted "Its Done!" on the 3drealms forum and then later posted "I meant the pizza".

Maybe one of the photoshop gurus here can analyze the pic and tell us if its fake or real.

I'm a huge Duke Nukem fan but I must admit I've lost faith that DNF will ever be completed. Having said that, if 3DRealms were to complete it, I'd be the first person to buy it and I'd probably be humming a retarded tune of happiness whilst skipping down the road to the shop.

My sentiments exactly. Im certainly not sitting around waiting for the game to come out, but when it does come out (and it will, eventually), its going to be freekin sweet, mark my words ;)

Ditto. After the first couple of years I just kind of moved DNF onto the backburner and occupied myself with other things than worrying about when it was going to come out. It's not like there's a shortage of great games out there to play. Depending on when it comes out and how much it is compared to my free cash at the time I'll pick it up.

Exactly, and I'd like to think that it would still give us that "worth the wait" feeling, even if it has been a drawn out process.

I'm personally of the 'action figure' theory. It doesn't look a whole lot like any CG style to my senses.

The term 'vaporware' is not condescending enough for what 3D Realms does. I consider them liars at this point.
