Hey all, I have decided to come to the infinite wisdom of the Lounge for input on the name of my game. I am working on a senior project that for us involves developing a game demo. We're using the UT2004 engine and we're well into tools familiarization and have developed a decent design doc and our direction for the project, but we haven't decided on a name. I'm hoping for some help from you guys. The basic premise of it (without spilling too much, seeing as how it is about three months before we release the demo to the public), is that it allows for teams to go into buildings and take out a monster threatening the premise. Simple enough, right? I mean, it's been done in practically every single shooter. The interesting variant we're going for is that multiple teams can be going after this monster and we're working off of a Capture the Flag setup, except in this case, the flag fights back. In summary, this mod or demo, however you want to phrase it, constitutes a variant of Capture the Flag that is instead Capture the Monster. We'll be allowing for all sorts of variations including team sizes and potentially for a player to be able to play that monster. Obviously we have multiple tricks up our sleeves, but that is the jist of it.

Or, you could go for the longer version and call it...

"Let Us Enter Buildings And Capture Monsters" or LUEBACM.

I agree, but you need to go for a monster acronym for your monster game!

I think the gameplay would work slightly better if you made it so that the objective wasn't to kill the monster but to get a team member through a short-lived portal which appears upon the death of the monster.

You could have monsters that tend to charge people and have good frontal armour, so you are basically dead unless someone else saves you. Some monsters could tend to run away and have good rear armour, turning things into somewhat of a tiger hunt. Would also be interesting to have some monsters go through walls and ceilings.

In terms of storyline I imagine you could have a military faction seeking some "Ultimate Power," another faction which is a coalition of ex-military and others who have realized that the military will cause the destruction of the world in their quest, and a religious faction who are doing it because they are crazy nutters.

You could make it so that for some reason only children could enter the portal, with the children pretty much only being able to get off one shot before their aim goes to hell. The point being that there would be some strategy involved in putting together a team with the right number of children.

I've just seen the Eureka 7 anime, so I can't help but imagine it somewhat like that, with the Antibody Coralians as the monsters. Would be neat to have cut-scenes which show what happens on the other side of the portals: A nightmarish battle like when they enter the Coralian in the anime (episode 12).
