I wonder if this is just a ploy to mass collect websites to block...

You know, it has just occured to me that there has been a definate lack of people posting from China around here of late... I guess this explains it...

Googling on "greatfirewallofchina.org" it seems that everybody's site is blocked. And greatfirewallofchina.org itself doesn't identify who runs the site or why anyone should trust it's technical expertise, honesty and so on. Wait - it buries the identies in a colofon on the about page: colofon. The site appears to originate in the Netherlands.

As far as gamedev.net goes, we have members from Beijing and other cities in China.

What about the greatfirewall of Saudi Arabia? Iran? or other places for that matter?

Interesting. I just tried it (with http://www.gamedev.net), and it came
back avilable.. (Some of the listed IPs were blocked though)

We have a lot of active Chinese users, so I suspect the site is broken.

Perhaps you entered "http://gamedev.net" instead of "http://www.gamedev.net" and it gets confused on redirects or something.

Yep that was it. www.gamedev.net works.

Shit... and I'll be there all summer, too. Well, looks like I'll have lots of time on my hands I'd otherwise spend surfing these here forums [rolleyes]
