Hi, I am just wondering if it would be possible to make a program that would work at the data link layer rather then the application layer. Basicly I want to be able to make a program that would change the MAC address of my wireless NIC so that it, no matter what, could not be traced back to me; Assuming I used a highly used public access point. This would not be the only purpose of the program. It would also allow me to read, and store, data received for other MAC's and this way I can prove to people how important WEP or WPA is to use. I think it would be possible thew a device driver, but I am not sure. Any thoughts or ideas?

Since wireless sniffers, along with on-the-fly WEP encryption crackers exist for quite a long time now, I'd say this problem has been addressed adequately.

As for changing MAC, all the network cards I use allow that by default through driver settings, including my wireless card.

Odd, my card wont allow me too. Probably becouse it is a crappy linksys. What card do you use?

I have a linksys, and i can change my MAC address. Are you looking in the right place?
I found the option under:
device manager -> linksys wireless device addapter -> Advanced Tab -> Local MAC

It depends on the driver. You may also have more luck doing it under Linux or Unix-ish OSes.
