Have you done any research yourself, or would you just rather we did all the leg work for you? [rolleyes]

The Current Forum FAQ and Work-in-progress updated forum FAQ are good sources of information.

Your favourite search engine should pull up a LOT of resources; sure - this method can make it hard to determine good results from bad, but it's a start. Run through a search engine, find some resources and if they don't seem to help you can post back here saying what you've tried reading and where you're confused/stuck.

Also, DirectX is a pretty large suite of tools and software covering many different versions and platforms. Refine your question more if you want any specific answers.

You'll have to download the SDK, that's for sure. You can get it here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=09f7578c-24aa-4e0a-bf91-5fec24c8c7bf&displaylang=en

Once you've installed the SDK, there is a help file with a lot of information about DirectX and how to program with it in installdir\Documentation\DirectX9\ called directx_sdk.chm. It won't tell you how to set up a project though, but you can probably find a website on how to do this. Also, if you're really into the whole programming thing, a good book never hurts.

I would recommend you to refer to this book: Introduction to 3D game programming with DirectX 9.0c a shader approach by Frank Luna. It's an excellent book :)

My own first steps in DirectX was back in Version 6 days. It confused the hell out of me so I decided to go over to OpenGL because there was this nice cool site that had a bunch of step by step tutorials. Those helped me understand what the graphical functions did. I then jumped back to DirectX when Version 9 came out and slowly worked through those first few tutorials.

Its still a hobby at the moment and a learning project where I am learning something new everyday.

Google is definitely a good avenue to check for tutorials. There are quite a few around that I have found to be very useful and are bookmarked for when I need to look back at them when memory fails me.
