Hi. I intend to write a small turn based stratergy game for a demo to go with my CV. I wondered if anyone can tell me about a game making program (like Game Maker) that is the best for doing this? I'm not after anything fancy, and have no programming experience, so I guess I'm looking for a Paint-by-numbers type, that's accessible for beginners. And with a steady learning curve. Thanks in advance, J.

I don't want to be mean but I doubt a game made with any "click and create" video game maker tool will have much impact in your CV. Companies want to see if you have programming or artistic talents. Maybe if you are lucky and invent some new gameplay idea in one of those app you might have a chance as a designer.

If you feel good enough you might want to start with an already existing engine, but offering more possibilities than the "Paint-by-numbers" programs.

Not if s/he's applying as a designer.

A quick Google suggests that you may want to look at HexKit.

Thanks for the replies.

I should have said in my OP: It's for game design, so I figured with a game making tool, I could at least show an aptitude for game mechanics, fun design and creativity.

As I have'nt started my university course yet, and don't have any programming skills, I figured that a demo would enhance my prospects. Even if it's just 'under my belt' until after I graduate.

Thanks aswell for the link :)
