Team name: N/A There is no team for this project, anyone with talent is welcome to participate or reap the benefits of the projects development. Project name: IRTE Rich Text Editor Brief description: IRTE Rich Text Editor is a cross browser Rich Text Editor project on Sourceforge.net under the GNU GPL license that emphasizes compatibility and accessibility. It currently has the following features: 1) Runs only in &#106avascript and thus does not require any specific server side technology. 2) Does not pollute the global name space, the only exposed name can be changed by the user if desired. 3) Defaults to an HTML text editor when the necessary &#106avascript features are unavailable. 4) Follows the Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox standards for implementing a rich text editor in object oriented &#106avascript. 5) Runs on IE 6+ and Firefox 1.5+ 6) Does not imposes changes to the body of an HTML document to operate. The editor may be assigned to any textarea in the HTML document. 7) Preserves as much standard HTML functionality as possible. The editor can be reverted (using DOM, the element is replaced dynamically) to an HTML textarea at any time. In fact, this editor is reverted to a textarea before form submission using the SubmitPrep() function. Target aim: To develop IRTE Rich Text Editor into a stable cross browser Rich Text Editor that optimizes compatibility and accessibility. Compensation: A free open source &#106avascript which can be used by anyone under the GNU GPL license. Technology: &#106avascript, DHTML Talent needed: &#106avascript programmers with a strong understanding of HTML, the HTML DOM, and object oriented &#106avascript. Programmers should also be aware of accessibility concerns. Team structure: I am currently solo on this project. Website: IRTE Rich Text Editor Contacts: Bernard a.k.a T1Oracle Previous Work by Team: I have experience with &#106avascript, DHTML, OOP, and plenty of other web technologies. I have developed many web projects since my first in 2001, including a site complete with a XML based CMS using PHP, XHTML, and XSLT. Additional Info: IRTE Rich Text Editor is very much in development, and it needs work and adding the following features: 1) Opera 8 compatibility, now that Opera supports rich editing I want to add support for it in my script. At the moment it does not work in Opera. 2) Reliable browser sniffing, I want the most reliable method for detecting whether or not a given browser will or will not support my script. This is necessary to ensure that the standard HTML textarea is defaulted to in the event that the editor is not supported. 3) General polishing, any improvements that does not break the basic goal of accessibility and compatibility are welcome. Feedback: Please let me know if you are interested in participating. Reply here, pm me, or e-mail me and I will see about how I can grant you the necessary CVS access to assist in my project. I must warn that I am fairly new to Sourceforge.net and CVS so please bare with me.

AFAIK sourceforge does offer you the choice between CVS and SVN nowadays. I really advice to go for SVN because that will save you a _LOT_ of headaches especially as the CVS repositories seem to get a lock from time to time and you always need to fill a ticket there as you can't resolve it yourself. Really annoying :-/

You will get many + ratings if you can tell me how to use SVN on Sourceforge. I am still learning Subversion and I still haven't figured out how Sourceforge can be used with it.

I did just install Eclipse with Subclipse so that may help, but I still need to figure out what Sourceforge needs for that to work.

Simply log into your account, visit your sourceforge project page (not the website, just in case you host it there too) choose the admin tab and there is a subsection entitled "Subversion". You can set up an SVN repository for your project there.

One possible useful hint: TortoiseSVN is an excellent SVN client for Win32 :-) I did never use Eclipse but I'm working with TortoiseSVN for about two years now and started to really like it.

Thank you, I'll try it later. Also, I'm using Kubuntu so Win32 doesn't help, but I'll be trying to learn the Subclispe plugin for Eclipse anyway.

Now, hopefully some one will offer &#106avascript assistance.

I'd figure more people would be interested in a good, light weight, easy to add, cross browser rich text editor. I guess I'm on my own on this one :\

Have you heard of FCKEditor? We sued it at work as a JS rich-text editor and it is pretty good, just like what you get in gmail for instance. Maybe you are doing something different but it sounds like you might be about to make something that already exists?

FCKEditor requires server side scripting. My editor is only &#106avascript. It also does not require modification to the body of an HTML document. This means you can use Dreamweaver, Frontpage, or whatever you want to make your site, and still add a rich editor to it in one line of &#106avascript without it interfering with your ability to edit the document in the usual way.

FCKEditor does more than my script, and that extra functionality comes at a price that my script will not charge (I don't mean money).

As far as I know (and I have searched), there are no free Rich Text Editors out there that are easier to add to a generic web page then my my solution.
*edit*
My solution also defaults to the already existing HTML when the needed features are not detected.

Also note, my editor already works fine in FireFox 1.5 and IE 6.0.
