I was disappointed when I found out Windows Vista Home Premium (which came on my new laptop) does not support EFS NTFS File Encryption. Unfortunately for me, I do work for my company on my laptop so I need a file encryption solution. I would like to know if any of you know of a good file encryption program that works just like the Windows Vista Business EFS encryption (i.e. completely transparent to application operations, does not work by creating drive letters, can be tied to the user account). I have already looked at SafeHouse. It says its operations are transparent but it requires the user to enter a password, and it creates a drive letter. In other words, specialized folders are needed for file encryption. I am looking for something completely transparent; no special requirements are needed to encrypt a file and files can be in their original locations. I would also like it to be tied to my user account (like in EFS) so that I do not have to type an extra password just to access my files (in EFS the files are available as soon as the user logs on because EFS is tied to the user account). Also, upgrading to Windows Vista Ultimate is not an option right now. Does anyone have any good recommendations; I have already searched Google with no luck.
