I am thinking about doing a school project and using D3D as my API for rendering. I have a pretty good knowledge of OpenGL and how the 3D pipeline works in general. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on books that might be comparable to Richard Wright's OpenGL Superbible, or possibly any sites with a wealth of reference material/tutorials. I understand that D3D's matrix system differs quite a bit from the OpenGL matrix stack architecture and D3D has a decent 3D math library and better model loading support. Any recommendations would be appreciated! Thanks!

If you're looking to learn DirectX9, and the shader system, I recommend Game Programming with DirectX 9.0c, A Shader Approach by Frank D. Luna. Good book to introduce you to HLSL and the Direct3D pipeline.

For DirectX reference, there's the DirectX SDK which contains full documentation for the API as well as programming guides, tutorials, and sample applications. Also, MSDN has a massive amount of information and documentation on practically everything Microsoft has written.
