i opened the CEGUISamples.sln in VS2005 and buid it.It showed no errors, but when i tried to run it showed that "d3dx9d_31.dll is missing reinstalling may solve the problem".I used CEGUI-SDK-0.5.0b-vc8.
You could have edited your post you know.
All the information which you require is available on the CEGUI wiki and forum. THe error is due to which version of DirectX the precompiled versions used.
