I was looking through the books on here and saw this book: http://www.courseptr.com/ptr_detail.cfm?isbn=1598633600&promo=gamedev whilst looking at that book courseptr decided to state that this booked was similar: http://www.courseptr.com/ptr_detail.cfm?group=Programming&subcat=C%2B%2B&isbn=1%2D58450%2D455%2D2 so i was wondering which one you would suggest purchasing?

First tell me your objectives.
Do you like to learn C++ for game programming or only C++?
Do you like to learn to make games in text mode or graphic mode?

If you choose game programming + games in text mode, I suggest the first book.
If you choose game programming + games in graphic mode, I suggest the second book.
This is because the first book only teaches games in text mode, and the second book covers SDL library too.

Please, correct me if I'm wrong

I suggest you not purchase the 2nd book on your list since I sold my copy.
It was missing files necessary to complete the last part of the book covering SDL.
Besides, having read both books the Dawson one is way better anyways.

I enjoy programming C++, Although i intend to get into the games area, specifically graphics so starting of in text mode and working my way to graphics is my aim, as its been said "Crawl before you can walk"

Daviangel: Thank you for your review, On that i shall purchase the first book along with the pointers from Nikko, on my work computer due to restrictions everything was a mess and information had to pick out, knowing that the first is text mode thats where i'll start.

Thanks Peeps!

'Beginning C ++ Through Game Programming' has realy nice code and is moving forward with perfect speed for a beginner (as myself)

I thought 'Learn C++ By Making Games' was a bit harder to follow and the author dosent use as nice code as the the first book on your list.

I recomend you to first buy 'Beginning C ++ Through Game Programming' and when you feel comfortable with c++ you can move on to online tutorials for SDL if you like to learn to code graphical games.

Hope that help.

Sorry for my bad english.
