Team name: None as yet. Not important right now. Project name: None as yet. Not important right now. Brief description: I am testing the waters. I am looking for a game designer / writer who knows they have a game idea/concept that will work. This is how I see it: You have an idea/concept that you think would make a great game. I have the technical know how and project management skills to get things started. Now before you get all keyboard happy and try to PM, IM or e-mail me; there are some requirements. I would appreciate you taking your time to understand these. If you have any questions, please ASK. There cannot be room for any doubt. a) I do not want to make the next 'world of warcraft' or mmorpg type game. It's been done, let's move on... b) I do not want to make the next 'unreal' or 'quake' or 'far cry' or any fps type game that follows that style. It's been done, let's move on... c) I need you to have a design document. No, not 10 pages or a 'brief idea'. I need you to have been working on this for quite a while. It needs to be quite a good deal near to completion. d) The game needs to have the potential to reach a wide group of audiences. e) The game needs to have the potential to make money. Sorry I don't have time to devote to a hobby project or something that is just 'fun'. I wish I could though. f) You need to be dedicated to getting your idea off the ground and to work at it. You need to devote at least 30 hours a week. g) The idea has to be original. Like I said I want to move forward, not stay stagnant with the same game types/genres. I am prepared to sign an NDA if need be, to read your design document. I will examine all the replies I get and I will pick one, that I think has the potential to be a great game. We will then talk about how we can make your concept a reality. Target aim: Retail. Nothing less. Compensation: None as yet. Not important right now. Technology: None as yet. Not important right now. Talent needed: Talented Game Designer: * Has a solid, unique idea for a game. * Has spent much of their life writing/loving/playing games. * Other additional skills are also welcome (programming/modeling/sketching/web design) but not required. * Has the time and dedication to pursue their concept/idea to completion. * Preferably is on the European timezone. I am GMT+2. Team structure: There is no 'team' as yet. I am testing the waters. Suffice to say these are my skills and what I will bring in to the potential project: * 6 Years programming experience * Programming in various languages (C++/C#/Java/blah blah blah) * Deep knowledge of Direct3D / OpenGL * Experience with programming on Linux, Solaris and Windows. * Project Management: Development of processes to maintain the project. Team coordination. Work allocation. etc... My history: I am 23 years old and live in sunny South Africa. I have been part of many projects, all failures. I have posted before with some really ambitious goals and have come to realize the errors of my ways. Time has a way of doing that I guess. However, my desire to break in to the industry has not dissapated. I am just a bit more realistic and more logical on how I am going to do it. Website: None as yet. Not important right now. Contacts: email: (polygondev),at,[gmail],dot|com MSN: as above Previous Work by Team: None worth mentioning. Additional Info: Nothing much to add that isn't already outlined above. Feedback: Any. I welcome any guidance and criticism. Thank you for taking the time to read my post. Edit: Sorry, forgot to say which IM's I am on. [Edited by - Pure on May 18, 2008 3:38:15 AM]

Hi there,
I am looking for programmers of your sort to join my team, we already have our idea and are begining planning stages. We are looking at commercial sale of a game engine, although completion is a long way off and if you are looking for a stable job in programming we will be of little use but i would like you Direc3D and managing skills on the team.

Well, just a couple of questions to clarify things:

1) Why do you want to start on a new project and not join one of the existing, successful projects?

2) What happened to your old teams? It is one thing that a game idea is too big(everybody finds this out the hard way :)), but it is another to lose all your contacts. In your threads you talk about amazing progress, why didn't you guys stick together and created something smaller?

3) To me it looks like you have two goals, breaking into the industry, and making money. What is more important to you? If you want to work at a gamedevelopment studio, an internship/applying for a junior function would probably be better than creating your own game for retail. I don't know, you look like you really want to build and complete games and care less about all the stuff going on around it. Why not really go for it and join a gamestudio? As you must have found out by now, making a game yourself/through the internet has a slim chance of success.

This is some advice (feel free to ignore it ;)). It looks like you are looking for the jackpot, a killer concept you just have to build. I don't think it works that way. You place your own success in the hands of some designer you know nothing about. I think research has shown that only 60% of original specifications in IT stay the same. Chances of a bulletproof concept are slim to none.

Most great, unique concepts are created through constant failure, and iterate to improve and reach success. I think that is also the way to reach something "unique". You start from something basic (say, a top down game where things can move around and hit each other), and keep adjusting and improving until it is not basic anymore, but great.

Now, I am just proposing this idea that could very well work out for you if you have 30+ hours available yourself. You don't need some 1337 designer for this, just sit behind your pc and start coding on something small with placeholder art and find a group of people(maybe 10 individuals) who are willing to test your game and give feedback. Install something like a two week code period, and let them give solid feedback every two weeks, process the feedback and improve the game as you go. Do this for 6 months and I think you will have yourself something unique and great.

DogmaDZ, thank you for your reply. Much appreciated.

I came here hoping to start off a team in hopes that I could lead it properly myself. However, I have joined another team who I hope has the right stuff (looks like it) to get things going.
