Map Editors and Open Terrain
I''ve gotten a good portion of my model rendering and manipulation code done for my game and I want to start working on rendering the maps. So far in the game design half the maps are open terrain and the other half are inside. When I say open terrain I mean very open, not just out-door scenes. However, It''s not entirley just ground terrain, there are large buildings and other things present.
I don''t want to take the time to write a map editor as I think it would take too much time to make anything decent, so I want to use another editor and just write a converter to convert/compile the maps. At first thought I figured it would be easy to make them in lets say Milkshape. I could just create the wirframe for the terrains ground up. Milkshape can do individual materials for meshes so it would work. But milkshape wouldn''t be able to add entities etc.
My next thought was using worldcraft, wich i am relatively familiar with, but I''m not sure how well it would be able to do the outdoor terrain. However It could do the inside stuff easily and it allows me to place ents.
Basically what I''m asking is if anyone can recomend some good map editors that would bo good for making the outside terrains. I rememebr there being a developer who posted his demo here a few times wich had a terrain engine. What did you use for map generation?
