I am trying to get a website online that is a little more resource demanding than most. I have some c++ native scripts than run quite often and may need some ram if many of them run at once. I also need at least 20GB of storage if not more. And the processor shouldnt be too slow since some of the scripts take about 2-3 seconds on 2 GHZ when one is running. So ive been looking at dedicated virtual hosting services and ive been wondering if perhaps im better off buying a server and getting a static ip at home. I do see some problems in terms of guaranteeing that the data isnt lost though. Anyone have any experience regarding the pros and cons of dedicated hosting from home versus with a company? Both in terms of things working right and in terms of price. -CProgrammer

Assuming you're talking about home broadband, most will have clauses in your contract saying you're not allowed to use it to host a website or similar. Check with your provider first, the last thing you want is to spend a lot of time only to be cut off just as soon as you get successful and they notice a spike in your traffic.

Yes I would be getting a business account with my ISP.
I've pretty much decided to go with the home server now, only I dont want to spend a lot of time setting things up.
Would Microsoft server, a wamp installation and some firewall/antivirus off the shelf do? Or am I underestimating the setup needed.
