I am using directx 9. I have been having the hardest time implementing hlsl. Basically I want to be able to use the latest version, with directx9. Does anyone know of how, or where I would go to learn about implementing hlsl. I am using fxcomposer, and would prefer to be able to use effect files from there.

If you need general information, you can try the DirectX SDK documentation, which is available online here. You can also get a book, which is probably the best option if you're looking for in-depth information. Personally, I recommend "Introduction to 3D Game Programming with DirectX9.0c, A Shader Approach" by Frank D. Luna. It implements the entire render pipeline in HLSL, and has information for doing things like lighting and normal mapping using HLSL.

So what? :P

The core concepts are the same no matter what API you're using, and that's what you need to learn right now. Even the C# application code is very very similar to what you'd do in C++...heck a lot of the functions/methods have the same names. And of course, the HLSL is always the same.
