I grabbed the Sept 08 source awhile back and integrated it into a build. It works fine on any computer with Visual Studio installed but when I try to deploy it to a client computer without VS it crashes instantly. I build with VS2005SP1. Do they need the VS2005SP1 runtimes? How can I get around installing these? Also, would this be the correct thing to have the client install in order to test if this is the problem?: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=200b2fd9-ae1a-4a14-984d-389c36f85647&DisplayLang=en Thanks! EDIT: He installed the redist and no dice... ;/ [Edited by - jstroh on December 8, 2008 1:37:49 PM]

The installer we ship with each release has the requisite redistributables, but Promit could speak on that with more authority.

Could you tell me exactly what is inside the installer?

All I know right now is that it runs on computers with visual studio installed and crashes instantly on those without it.

It does require the VS 2005 SP1 redist, yes, but it also requires DirectX DLLs and things. And depending on how you pulled it into your project, you may have damaged the delay load settings which could mess things up too. Your best bet is to pull it up in Dependency Walker, preferably on the target machine, and inspect what it's looking for. Note that you cannot differentiate between 2005 and 2005 SP1 runtimes via DW. Also, only pay attention to the top level entries in the DW tree. Errors farther down in children can be ignored.

If you're confused, just resize the window and post a screenshot, I'll explain further.

http://www.dependencywalker.com/ ?

And just open SlimDX.Dll yes?

Thanks so much for the help!

MSVCR80D.DLL
KERNEL32.DLL
D3DX9_35.DLL
USER32.DLL
GDI32.DLL
MSVCM80D.DLL
MSVCP80D.DLL
MSCOREE.DLL
D3D9.DLL

These are the dll's it requires. Anything out of the ordinary here?

The main reason I built the source on my own was to use it with an earlier version of directx and to remove the dependency for the need to use one specific version of directx. I'm only using Base, Converters, Direct3D9, and Math.

Ok here's the error from their Dependency Walker:

Error: The Side-by-Side configuration information for "SLIMDX.DLL" contains errors. This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem (14001).

You've gone and built your SlimDX against debug versions of the CRT, is the problem. For distribution you'll need to make a Release build.

Seems the release version isn't working either.

This is driving me crazy.

The only solutions to this I've found on the net is to remove the manifest but that doesn't work...

Ok I've confirmed I can't get a release build to run...

EDIT: If I post the project somewhere could you look at it?
