While on the 'Rate my website' theme, I thought I would jump on the bandwagon and mention a new website I am developing. www.win32developer.com I am creating a basic tutorial site for Winsock and general Win32 programming. I often find myself having to re-learn and re-invent the wheel, so I thought that I would store my 'learings' on my own site. Both to use as a reference for myself and to try an help others along the way. Any feedback (good or bad) would be appreciated. [Edited by - lonewolff on January 30, 2009 3:45:21 AM]

The site is pretty good (I haven't read any of the tutorials as I'm not too into sockets and networked programming in general). Easy to navigate and doesn't have stupid flash animations everywhere.

i haven't looked into the tutorials yet, but your site is really nice.

Fast to load, nice and clean graphics and easy to navigate, thats the way to go.

Thanks for your comments, guys!

I have never been a big fan of flash animation (although I can create them). They suck up bandwidth and unnessesary CPU hogs.

I still create sites as though I was on dial-up, hehe!

hm interesting site you have there.

nice and clean ... maybe little bit to dark for a programming site but nothing i really care about. maybe i´m only tired.

i haven´t read your tutorials on winsock yet but im going to ..

because i did a little server/client program but never really understood how package worked.

just a little "hint" maybe you can do it, if you not already have done it :P

It looks very nice. The only criticism that I have is that the site is too dark. The current web 2.0 style is to have lighter colored sites - like a lighter shade of black.

Seems like a good site design. The only criticism I have with it (and its only a small one) is on the mouse over effect for the menu options the text slides right and left as you mouse over, which really bugged me. Its probably just personal preference and I cant speak for others :P

Hi lonewolff. The site is nice and neat overall but I have just a few things to say as someone with a lot of web design work under my belt.

1) Yes the site is a bit dark. I would deffently go for lighter tones.
2) The mouseover for the links are confined to the text I would make it so that a hit anywhere on the button area causes it to highlight
3) As francoispress says to jumpy text as part of the rollover effect can be annoying to some people( I personally don't mind it but I've had clients complain to me in the past about it)
4) The text from the news on the right is a bit close to the main area. I would add some padding to separate the news text a bit more to the right.

I am using Firefox 3 BTW.

PS. The tutorials look great I am currently designing a game which will be networked. Your Winsock tutorials are very nice and minimalistic and to the point. I have bookmarked your site and will definitely be coming back for another look once my game advances to that stage.

Regards,
John.

Very nice site! I like that it is very clean site and very quick to load.

The only minor thing i will say is that i kind of expected there to be a link in the latest news section to take you to the section being talked about. Maybe make the title a link or add a 'more..' link?

Wery nice site. I like the style of it. But the content is still limited. You shud post moce tutorials about window programming because I think that is what people want. I hope you will be updating.

Very nice young Jedi! ;)

May someone like me or other users who come to the site tribute to your tutorials?

Nice tutorial on Blocking sockets in TCP/IP...
