I'm trying to do some profiling but I'm having some trouble interpreting the output from AMD Code Analyst.

std::_Iterator_base::_Orphan_me       9.28
std::_Iterator_base::_Adopt           3.66
std::_Iterator_base::~_Iterator_base  2.81
std::vector<std::list<std::p...       2.66
Etc
It's a little bit interesting in that it shows me to pay more attention to how I'm using things like shared_ptr and certain data structures but it's mostly otherwise useless. I would need lower level library functions attributed to their calling functions all the way up to top level functions called from main. I've seen output like that before but I've never known how to get it myself. Is this even possible with sample based profiling? It doesn't look like CodeAnalyst can do anything else.

This may be off topic, but it looks like you're running your program under debug mode. When doing real profiling, remember to compile and run under release mode.

Define _SECURE_SCL as 0 and it disables the iterator tracking in the STL, which involves those functions. However, they're useful for debugging.

Compile a release build with debug info (/DEBUG in MSVC) and profile that. You want to know what the optimized version is doing.

Ah, yeah. I mostly just wanted to get debug symbols on quickly to try it out. Even in release though most of my time seems to be spent in boost library functions, which doesn't help me much.
