Item Combination
Hey all, Just wanted to ask which Item Combination/Fusion/Synthesis system you enjoyed the most. If any systems stood out, let me know. Have there been any min-game style systems? or mostly static? Thanks!
Kingdom of Loathing (www.kingdomofloathing.com) has an awesome combination system; altho you need the correct type of humor to enjoy it :-)
Can you elaborate on what you mean exactly? Do you mean like a Diablo II style crafting (well, "crafting") system or the general whole of the various items and how they exist in the world?
Hmm, well I'm not quite sure how to describe it. Basically I'm attempting to make a mini-game out of your typical item combination mechanic and give it a cooking theme of sorts.
I was just asking to see what has been done, so I could get some direction.

Maybe not exactly what you're looking for, but I'm a fan of the ship configuration system in EvE online, where the ship itself serves as teh shassis and then you customize its performance and abilities by fitting "modules" to it. It allows endless diversity from a comprehensibly small number of components.
Hmm, checkout Everquest 2's crafting system. Basically you have abilities that you use during crafting. Certain events come up that you have to handle by using the abilities - they also effect the various attributes of the item your making depending on which ones you use. I had a chef and you'd have to handle things like it getting too hot and stuff like that. It was an interesting twist on MMO crafting.
I like this sort of thing. You see this in quite a few games, even if subtler ways like diablo/wow's rune/gem system.
