About us 2ndawn is devoted to bringing back the feeling of the classic RPG & restoring the old ways of game while giving a new style of games to the world. We started small with only a few people but we are a fast growing group of artist, next gen modelers, and writers. Using online wiki, ftp, and forums, we are able to get files, art, and information to each other in seconds, making our team very affective. Our homepage is up however it is still under construction so you will not find much there yet: http://www.2nDawn.com What our goal is and why we are doing this 2ndawn is a combination dreams from people around the world. Our goal is to bring you a new era of RPG games. During the last 20 years, we have enjoyed the greatest RPGs that history will ever have, but lately there has been an absence. That is where we come in, by starting from scratch we are working diligently to bring you a new style of games while keeping in mind what you loved about the classics. Our goal and strength comes from disappointments from the released RPGs in the currently on the market. We are a team consisting of old school hardcore RPG fans from the times since SNES up until now, and there is no doubt that the feeling you got from playing those old school RPGs are gone. What we expect from you For all prospective team members devotion and initiative is a must, you must also enjoy the work you do whether you are programming, modeling or working on game art, if you are lacking this quality you will likely fall short. One must be able to communicate on a regular basis, whether by email or instant messaging service such as windows live messenger (preferred messaging service for this project). One must be able to meet their deadlines, if there is an issue there is flexibility and the necessary arrangements for the current assignment can be made, within an acceptable period. The current team Chris Chris is both the mastermind behind the project and the founder of it. This guy is the person to talk to whenever you have any questions related to the story and gameplay. His storytelling and imagination for this project could be described with a single word: EPIC. Kris Our lead concept artist. This guy is a great example of how to devote your time and produce artwork at an incredible speed and quality. Usually people say quality over quantity, but this guy has both of them in his veins. He is also the brain behind the level layout concepts, working together with Chris hand to hand to achieve what is envisioned for the game. Umar Our senior 3D artist, capable of doing stunning artwork. This guy can handle anything you toss at him. Characters, sculpting, detailing, texturing, creating maps is just a glimpse of what this guy is capable of. Working together with Yasin to give life to the game in every aspect. Yasin Our Technical Artist. The person holding everything technical together who acts like a bridge between artists and programmers with his knowledge in both areas. Not just capable of producing stunning artwork but also the man responsible of getting the artwork to qualify for the 3d engine we'll use. Could be best described as jack of all trades. Ellinor A concept artist doing all the characters for us, she works part-time with us and gets the job done with great results whenever we need a sketch. We have a few other helpers but those could not be described as core member. Current state We have decided to use the Acknex 7 Engine based on d3d9 framework. The engine uses the lightweight language lite-c, very similar to c/c++. Unless we find a reason to switch, we are staying with this engine. Time and people who apply for this project can only tell Smile Currently we are in talks with Ubisoft, they have read our proposal and seemed to love it. They have moved us to the next step and requested a demo from us so that they could give us funding. However, nothing is final and there are of course expectations in terms of quality, which we no doubt will burn and fight for to achieve. Payment payment will come after the demo is submitted to UBISOFT we are in stage 2 they have seen our proposal & now want a demo. Application template There is no application template, as long as you show us that you are serious and would like to be a part of our team. Name, what you qualify as (programmer, artist, composer, designer), about yourself and some past work should be enough. We want quality over quantity applications with good formatting; no one likes to read a wall of text that critical hits you for 100,000 damage. Payment
payment will come after the demo is submitted to UBISOFT we are in stage 2 they have seen our proposal & now want a demo.

Just want to clarify here, do you have a written agreement from Ubisoft that upon delivery of "stage 2", you will receive payment, or is there some other (verbal) agreement that IF they like stage-2 they will sign a publishing agreement and pay you?

You're gonna need to post some more information about this supposed deal with Ubisoft, and/or proof of some kind, like someone else mentioned. I don't know a thing about the publishing business, but this all seems a bit unlikely. Just my 2 cents.

I'm not looking to join your team, but I just wanted to say congratulations on what you have achived so far. I looked over your screenshots in a previous thread, and based on the quality I saw there I have no reason to doubt the authenticity of your claim to have interest from Ubisoft. I hope it works out for you!

My only other comment would be that I haven't looked at any of the images in this thread, because copying and pasting all those links is just too much work. You have some great images, so you should embed them in the page like you did previously. Or at lest make them clickable.

For the benefit of other people, you can see some images from this project here:

Good luck once again with your project!

you have posted alot of concept art... It's good but it only shows that you have some good artists and not that you are capable of finishing a commercial game project. And the fact that you mentioned a deal with Ubisoft without ellaborating on it doesnt help either nor does your careless spelling mistakes. I did however by chance look at the last screenshot posted (The one under the "Other" section) that seems to be a prototype of the actual game and for me this carries much more weight than the ton of concept art and the wall of self glorifying text you wrote since it shows that you actualy have something concrete. And if you only showed me that screenshot i would have assumed that your concept art is very good wihout actualy seeing any of it.

Is it possible to maybe post some more of those ingame screenshots? i'd love to see them since it looks very good so far. It has a Final Fantasy feeling to it and the characters fit the surroundings perfectly.

It's not a prototype. It's a screenshot of Final Fantasy Online with their own "concept" UI design over the screenshot.

Original Poster, you should show more proof that you have some serious work going other than 3d models and concept art. Many other teams can churn that stuff out.

So, reading your team listing, do you have any programmers on the roster? I know you list a technical artist, but that's not nearly the same.

How far along is the demo that Ubisoft's asking for? You do need to realize that this is a big claim among most indie projects here: actually receiving interest from industry? That's name-dropping on a grand scale, but the post you've made doesn't seem to stand up to what a publisher would take interest in (concept art and roughly-edited text does hardly a sales pitch make).

Hey! Way to go!
:)))

Game producers have been ignoring us and what we want ever since Intel Pentium 1!
;-) - Or almost!
They prefer to focus on 5-9 year old dumbwitts wo can't do more than pull a trigger in real time... ;-)

No, seriously: I'm a hardcore old-style (pen and paper) RPG fan myself and like many older *gourmet* computer game fans I have been missing the old style (TURN BASED) *QUALITY-instead-of-only-3Dgraphics* RPGs (MULTIPLE CHARACTERS) so much, that I have started mutilating myself with learning how to do it myself.
Obviously, if others are incapable of delivering what you want, you need to do it yourself! Right? :-)

I started my own project, MRPGS, the Multiple Role Playing Game Simulator: www.mrpgs.net
It's still in the planing phase (of the main data structure), even after 2 years or so, simply because I have about $ 2000.- worth of programming books to work through.
- I am making progress behind the scenes though, my data structure is taking form out of the formless!... ;-)

In any case: It's awfully lonely to work alone and it's a tremendous boost in morale to be able to communicate with like minded people! I'd like to join your crew just for the professional (old, classic RPG) exchange!
Unite people! And create what big $$$ companies have been withholding from you for generations! Good quality turn based RPGs!!! The purpose computers were created for! :-)

I'll send you an email or PM.

Greetings,
Mark Schmid

Meh, other than the questionable name-dropping bit it's no worse that the rest of the people coming in here without programmers. While the lead seems to be just another ideas man, at least he attracted some very talented artists, so at least they're ahead in that regard. The character portraits are great, the environments and ships are highly detailed, and that ship conversion to a 3D model is very nice, if perhaps too high-poly to be used in-game.

The whole "next-gen old school RPG" thing kinda leaves me scratching my head though. It's interesting too, there are no programmers, yet 3D Gamestudio is already decided upon. Not necessarily a bad thing (though I confess I don't know much about it), but it certainly limits who will apply.

Well anyway, best of luck.

So it would seem to me that you floated them an idea and they said okay show us the demo (we have no idea what the standard response from Ubisoft is)... I suppose if you have a "good demo" than you might get picked up but to say "picked up by UBISOFT" seems to be jumping the gun at best.
I dream hard of helping people.

Ease up people. He is excited about talking with Ubi. No need to burn him at the stake. They don't have any programmers yet, but that's what this post is about, no?

But... i can say why i think no one will bite.

There may be reluctance to join because of the demo. The demo means a hard deadline. The longer you wait the more Ubi has 2cd thoughts about funding. Lots of responsibility falls on the guy that joins.

And that far away dream of making some big cash off a successful game is not there. Programmer would just be an "employee" and get small piece. Whole point of going indy is to not be an "employee" but a CEO.

I would seem that at least Mr. Evans is working on a CS degree, although of course this means nothing at all when it comes to program a "next gen RPG", which isn't all that trivial and surely not something you do without a dozen years of experience.

What makes me sceptical about the Ubisoft pickup story is, besides it being rather unlikely in the first place (even for a project that can present an actual running demo), the presence of spelling errors not only in the title of this post, but also in nearly every paragraph of the story concept.
Maybe it's different in the US, or maybe I'm too old (and too old-fashioned), but I perceive it pretty much standard that if you didn't even take care to proof-read your texts or run a spellchecker over them, people will stop reading after a few lines, and your application will go straight to the dustbin, no matter how good the rest of it is. I'm inclined to believe that a huge publisher like Ubisoft would most probably act that way, even in these modern times.

Sorry everyone I wanted to respond before but my laptop died I had to get a new one, Was a true pain. think you for all the feed back good and bad. At this point we have talked to Ubi and sent in our proposal. As I see it they could have rejected us right there but they didn't they asked for a demo, So I see that as a good thing.

And there is a major change in our software it seems like we will no longer be using the A7 but will be using the Unreal UDK.

I hope to hear from you all soon.
Chris

It's not different in the US. You're absolutely right, Small companies don't even look at your resume if you have grammatical errors let alone ubisoft looking at your game proposal.

And Just because I have some time to spare, I looked at all of his previous posts.

**OP third posted, same title (10th june), this time posts previous work by team as youtube videos by lead artist. Note that these videos were posted on youtube before his last post so this does not indicate progress from his last post to this one.

...it's like a cycle with every other MMO post. The poster first posts it without a template the day he joins. Then a month later posts it again this time with the template but due to the feedback stated as "ANY" he gets flamed badly. Recovering from such an event takes a couple of weeks before he dares post again but this time he remembers to state the feedback as "ENCOURAGING ONLY" and then no one posts and the project dies away. Tired, the poster returns to the confines of his cave a

Being "picked up" by "ubisoft" seems to imply you have been "approved" and yet this post also says that "nothing is final" and they are "requesting a demo so that they could give us funding". The use of the phrase "picked up" seems to be misleading and/or inaccurate based on other statements that you provided. How can you have been "picked up" if Ubisoft wants to see a demo before they confirm anything regarding the publishing of your game, as you admit? Please post some clarification on this or fix the title of this post.

The obvious spelling mistakes have already been noted, and I do take these issues seriously when I am looking at projects. It sends a message to potential workers about the credibility of your project.

There's nothing particularly wrong going on here, certainly not something that warrants closing this thread, and most of the others are old. There's no rule against posting more than once here, in general.

Although I do agree that saying the title has been "picked up" by Ubisoft is misleading. I would suggest to the OP that he reword the title.
