Project name: War For The Over-world Brief description: This is a dungeon keeper sequel there is information on game-play here: WTFO Design Draft Target aim: Freeware Compensation: The project is fan-based, sadly there will be no pay. Technology: WE are currently still trying to decide on what will be best. It will most likely be using C++. The graphics technology we are thinking of using Ogre3D for. other programmers have made engines in DirectX 9. Talent needed: We really need programmers right now, even if you can offer only a little help it would be great. all kinds of talent are accepted (Texture, Sound) anything you can offer is great. Team structure: There is already many team members. The team members are: Game Designers Blue Eagle Dark Angel Dotted Simburgur Hapuga Programmers Nebster Wavesonics Ballwinkle Kopavel Video ------------ 3D Modelers - Blutonium Animators - Blutonium Concept Artists - Synesthesia Graphic Design - bloodiedathame Texture Artists - Blue Eagle Audio ------------ Music - Deflektor Voice actors - A New Room -- Mentor Website: The website Contacts: You can PM me or reach me on skype: kkkkairu Additional Info:We have some great concept artists and modelers working on this project. The concept artist's work: You can find some more of his work on the link below Synthesia's Art, Click Here The modelers work: The rest of his WTFO models can be found in the link below: Blutonium's models, Click Here We had a previous engine but we are now using a new one as the the old programmer vanished Old engine: Used OpenGL New Engine: Uses DirectX Please keep in mind that the old engine had been under development for 2 years almost, by a single programmer (Who vanished). The new engine has only been under development for no longer than probably 2 months. Again a single programmer is working on that engine, we need more programmers to help on the engine so kopavel is not doing it alone. Any help will be greatly appreciated! I think you should probably read this before proceeding.
In time the project grows, the ignorance of its devs it shows, with many a convoluted function, it plunges into deep compunction, the price of failure is high, Washu's mirth is nigh.

Is that permission in writing? Because you will definitely want it to be!

Also, there is a mandatory posting template that must be followed in the Help Wanted forum. http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/topic.asp?topic_id=338886

And good luck with the project. Another well done game in that genre would be great.

I have updated it to use the template.

What does "To my knowledge" mean? Either you have written permission from EA, in which case everything is fine, or you don't, in which case you're going to get sued when the game comes out (And EA has to take legal action to protect its trademarks / IP, or they risk losing them).

Please look at this.

One of the project leads said, We got permission. so i am taking his word for it. Get off my back.

We're going to need actual proof (Send me a PM or E-mail) that you have permission from EA for this thread to remain open I'm afraid. "given that we have permission i dont see that happening" doesn't cut it.

Fine ill talk to the project leaders and see if we have written permission.

What's it matter to GDNet if they get a C&D letter from EA down the line?
You know it's not illegal to develop an infringing game (until you distribute it), and it's certainly not illegal to let said developers use your forum.

The official site policy (this was handed down to me from the higher-ups btw, but I do agree with it for practical reasons) is that it is not our place to enforce the intellectual property rights of other companies - as such, we will usually warn copyright infringeing users that what they are doing is illegal but will not actually close or delete the threads without a specific request from the owner of the IP in question
[EDIT]Nevermind, forgot about this change of policy.

You mean an EA employee seriously replied to a legal-related E-mail with just "As long as ur not selling for profit, ur fine"? Would you be able to provide me with the E-mail address of the person you contacted (Via a PM)?

I'm not trying to be deliberately awkward, but you haven't provided any real proof that you have permission to use EA's IP, and using their IP without firm permission will land you with a cease and desist letter from EA if you're not careful.

So long as the Dungeon Keeper assets are still being used, it's still infringing.

See Here.

Wrong. Copyright law prevents any and all of the following.....
- Reproduction
- Creation of a derivative work
- Distribution
- etc

The planned project is most certainly a derivative work and as such its creation would be an infringement regardless of if it is distributed or not.

Sorry but this only works if it is true - which clearly it isn't. When you copy graphics and characters from the original work it ceases to be "inspired by" and becomes a derivative work.

Well, i don't know what to say. I am just asking for a little programmer support. If you guys are going to be that persistent at gunning down the thread legally constantly.. You can delete the thread.
