Hello everyone. Well let me start off by showing some art from the game... http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2010/007/1/5/Viral_Outbreak_by_BossCrab.png Man I wish I could post the pics directly into this thread. Anyway... So here's a basic summary of the game. You play as KAP( Kappa Anti-Virus Program) as you install into a computer filled with viruses (virals). Throughout the game you travel through levels that make up a computer, places like App Central and Documents ridding the computer of the viral infection. Another aspect of the game, and the reason why we began calling it Downgrade is the unique health system. The game is in 32bit and as you go down in health so will the graphics of the game. That means depending on your health level the game will either be in 32bit, 16bit, 8bit, and 4bit. 4bit being the lowest your health can be before crashing. The game plays like castleroid .. or metroidvania rather. Cavestory is a better example actually. We have alot of art pumping out for this game as we have two sprite artists and a concept artist and have been working for a couple months now. We have a programmer but hes had a really rough last couple of months and hasnt done much and needs help so I was wondering if there were any programmers out there who know their stuff that would like to get in on this. We plan on entering an indie game contest and also generally making this game big in the indie game scene and splitting the money from that. [Edited by - synje on January 21, 2010 9:31:24 AM]

Dang those are some nice graphics! I'd like to help with the programming. If you are interested, please give me a shout with some details about the graphics API used, language, etc. My email address is shalayka@gmail.com.

Here are some graphics-related projects that I've worked on:
http://cavekitty.ca/manuscripts/fractal.pdf
http://cavekitty.ca/manuscripts/inv_ssa.pdf
http://cavekitty.ca/manuscripts/disconnectedness.pdf

The source code related to the first paper is at: http://cavekitty.ca/code_samples/julia4d2-1.92-src-msvc.zip.

The References sections of the second two papers include links to the related source code.

Good work dude, looks very impressive. Really like the idea of as the health goes down so do the graphics.

Anyway just wishing you best of luck with the project

Hey guys, thanks for the responces. The thing is, I dont think our programmer has started programming so its kinda in the air and he can't work or talk right now cuz of personal issues. I know he mentioned XNA though if that helps. I'm looking for a programmer that knows his stuff well enough that he could make this platformer game work. We got a team of great artists and designers but miss that very vital part of programming. Without you, we dont have a game and these animations are just to look at.

For what it's worth, the source code link that I posted in this thread is a DirectX application, written in C++. I've also got experience programming in C#, though these were commercial projects (network management mostly) and so I can't release the source code. Altogether I've been programming for almost 20 years (if you count reading these types of books as programming, heh), 7 of those professionally.

I can see why the primary programmer would want to use the XNA system, since it would allow the game to be made available for Xbox and Windows simultaneously. That said, there seem to be issues with using Microsoft's networking code and being able to freely sell your game for Windows. This can be sidestepped by using ones own network code. I have experience with writing this type of code as well (commercially, but this time network diagnostic tools).

If I seem enthusiastic to get my foot in the door on this project, it's because I have an unhealthy obsession with 2D sidescrolling action games. I probably spent 10% of my childhood playing Strider and Final Fight alone. :)

Great looking graphics, really like the style. Allso checked the sound track, very good! I have no previous game programming experience so i can't boast about it XD, but i know c# and xna well enough to make a 2d platformer. So if you end up a programmer short send me a pm. Good luck on the project!! :)

so you dont know if XNA was just the weapon of choice or an requierement for the contest? maybe you could tell us which contest it is you're talking about and we could figure out ourself what the requierements are.
Just like taby I'd prefer c++, although I could do it with XNA.
