Hey. Have an interview on Wednesday for a company that make iPhone games for a summer placement. I havent done any iPhone work before so is there any sites that people can reccommend that give good tutorials or info. Cheers. [Edited by - discodowney on April 5, 2010 7:41:53 AM]

Cheers. Reading them now.

the companies site says they use Java for their dev work. But on the apple site there is nothing about Java with the iPhone. I havent been able to find anything on Google either. Anyone know where i can get info?

Are you certain they make 'iphone games' and not just browser based games using java that happen to be sized correctly to run on the iphone?

Well if this is native iPhone programming you'll have to get familiar with objective-c and here is a good site for that.

Think that page i was looking at was old. They originally made mobile games but have moved up to iPhone, just havent updated that page on the site id say.

Just create a free developer account on the iPhone Developer Portal:
http://developer.apple.com/iphone/index.action

You'll have full access to the docs and can even download the SDK. Key thing to remember is that iPhone dev is only possible on a mac, so some familiarity with XCode (the IDE that comes with the SDK) or whatever might be useful.

But read through their docs. They have some great Getting Started docs and pretty pimp documentation of all the different APIs.

But yeah, Java doesn't run on iPhone so if they're using java they aren't writing native apps: webapps would make sense as long as they require no client-side java. To my knowledge no jvm has ever been approved for the platform.

Dont have a mac, or access to one. The ones in college dont have the SDK on them and i cant install anything on them. Best i can do is read.

Cheers for the confirmation of Java.

I finally got used to the syntax of Objective-C after a few weeks of using it. Xcode I still haven't gotten used to. I've found it a bit ironic that where MS is criticized for their OS but has pretty robust development tools, Apple has what's usually regarded as one of the most stable operating systems, but their development tools are annoying to work with.

So I guess my advice is once you have access to it just start using it.
