Project name:
Ethos
Brief description:
Ethos is a pre-alpha MUD library written in LPC (an interpreted language similar to Pike and C). While Ethos will be meant to run MUDs -- that is, text-based online multiplayer games -- it will approach many of the old problems in new ways, and will include features such as full persistence (and no more "repopping" zones) and a level of game intelligence not yet seen in the MUD world. The IP for Ethos' first game is fully originally and is in the same stage of development as the mudlib - set in a highly exotic world high in fantasy and low in magic.
Target aim:
The games -may- commercialized, likely using a subscription system.
Ethos is not expected to be released publicly for free, but may be privately licensed (this is still up in the air).
Long term goals of the team are dependent on success of Ethos and the commercial games, but the hopes are to break into more professional graphical mediums and invest in digital twin technologies.
Compensation:
None. There are no promises of gold falling from the sky here; if we approach release commercially, compensation will be discussed at that time, with tenured and active team members.
Technology:
Knowledge of *nix systems is helpful. Game runs on ubuntu (or any other linux flavor with gcc).
Driver that the mudlib is built atop is called DGD (Dworkin's Game Driver) and is written in C.
Talent needed:
Programmers. No need for graphical programming experience, but should be comfortable with network/telnet programming, program design, and have clean and organized habits. Most of all, MUST be willing to learn and commit.
Project will be mostly done in a language called LPC, so pre-existing knowledge of Pike, C, C++, or Java is useful in learning LPC. Strong experience in C is welcome but not required.
Team structure:
Sarah Bonner - Programmer & Designer
Ryan - Marketing; World Design

Feedback:
QUESTIONS AND CONSTRUCTIVE ONLY (no flames or game/genre-bashing, please)
