I've been trying to use Dev-C++ to create a very basic DirectX application, but when I try to compile and run, I get the following:
6 C:\Program Files\Microsoft DirectX SDK (June 2010)\Include\d3dx9.h:46, from main.cpp In file included from C:/Program Files/Microsoft DirectX SDK (June 2010)/Include/d3dx9.h:46, from main.cpp

Basically, I think it's not able to include d3dx9.h, but I have no idea why. I set up where to find it and everything, but it just won't compile. Any ideas?

Two things:
First, the error message is not complete as far as I can tell, maybe you can post everything the compiler outputs.

Second, and more importantly, Dev-C++ is literally ancient, dating back to 2005. You should really(!) get an up-to-date compiler and IDE. I've only used Visual C++ (the Express Edition is free) and Eclipse for C++ development so far, but I've heard good things about Code::Blocks.

I'll second that suggestion. Visual C++ Express is a good modern IDE, and one that the DirectX SDK is tested against. I know you're probably comfortable with Dev-C++, but VC++ will be a better environment when developing on Windows.

If you insist on using Dev-C++, googling "dev c++ directx" or similar might bring up something helpful.

As far as I recall, the last DirectX SDK that was supported by DevCpp was December 2004.

I'd definitely recommend Visual Studio - there's as much reason to run DevCpp as there is Windows 95 these days.
