The Gentleman can kiss my @$$!
Rep. Weiner pretty much blasts the Republicans (though the Dems share blame too). But what he says at the core is pretty much the truth. If you don't like the bill, truly don't like the bill, then vote "NO". But don't vote "NO" so you can posture and play politics. Whether you agree that 9/11 workers should be given health care is one thing, but you have to admit that he's one of the few elected representatives that has actual passion, compassion, and gumption.
I like this guy.
May I present my new favorite elected representative
It would be a better world if politicians voted based on what they think is good or bad, rather than just to score points against the "enemy". I hope that I can live in such a world - but doubt that extra-terrestrials will ever arrive and whisk me off there.

I think that's what upset me most about health care. It was like everyone was arguing over it when we have a much bigger crisis (economy) going on at the same time.
That's why I get pissed off at washington in general. They're all too busy being politicians to realize they aren't doing what's best for the people. What angers me most though is that most people are too stupid or lazy (irony noted) to do the menial amount of work needed to vote in someone that isn't stupid.
People argued over the stimulus bill and the bailout of General Motors (and are still arguing over those). Those issues came before health care and the arguments that followed. The trouble was that the argument over health care took all year. But don't kid yourself, when one of the leading cause of foreclosures is medical costs, the health care crisis is part and parcel with the economic crisis.
On the subject of righteous ass chewings, did you see Sen. McCaskill lay into the incompetents who used to be in charge of Arlington? Senator rips former Arlington cemetery leaders. CNN has the video: Senator says 6,600 Arlington graves may have been mismanaged

but it won't even fix anything significant for a few years! But yea. I guess it was a little more irksome that it took so long to push it through than that it was pushed through.
What irked me was that they didn't give single payer any hearing at all, let alone a fair hearing. It's one thing to lose the game on the field, it's another thing entirely to lose the game without ever having been let onto the field.

An attitude which caused most of these problems to begin with.
Why do politicians play politics instead of doing what's right for the people? Because the people decided that day-by-day politicking and attack campaigns and sex scandals are all more important than the long term health of a society.
In a democracy, the government can only be as competent as the people.

normally I'd agree, but there are plenty of ways to stimulate the economy NOW that would provide results in months instead of years. A good portion of the health care bill won't make an impact on health for a year or more, and then we have to wait for the added benefits to the economy well after that.
Even so, I'd be a lot happier with a long term economic stimulus in an economic recession than a long term health plan in an economic recession.
