Looking for some drawing software recommendations

Hi,

I'm sat here with a few coloured pencils, ruler and a few sheets of A4 paper trying to design a GUI for something. The thing is, I know that this could be done so much quicker on a PC rather than on paper. So, what I'm looking for is some simple drawing software with the following features:

- Must be simple to use.
- Can have multiple pages.
- Can have multiple layers per page.
- Can work with objects (rectangles etc.) rather than just lines etc.
- A bonus feature would be able to 'share' objects that are created between pages.
- Don't want some online thing.

I'm not necessarily looking for something that is specifically made for GUI design, nor am I necessarily wanting something that offers interactivity.

I'm guessing a huge number of people here will have designed a GUI at some stage or other, so what do you use and what can you suggest?

Thanks,
NB.
Inkscape: http://inkscape.org/

[OpenTK: C# OpenGL 4.4, OpenGL ES 3.0 and OpenAL 1.1. Now with Linux/KMS support!]

Thank you, I'll give it a shot and let you know how it goes...
It sounds like you could use Paint.Net?
Fireworks. It's designed for this and is only 300 USD. You'll probably never regret buying it. It's the kind of software you'll use for years.

Balsamiq.

Other than that, search for wireframing or mock up tools.

Balsamiq is awesome!!!!!! and cute too.

For it's price it's a nice prototyper.

But yeah, Fireworks is the standard and well known.
