Hello. My name is Voodoorobert and I am the producer of Beheaded Studios.

This current project that i've been working on is an Fantasy RPG. The era is medieval. It would have features such as alignment, factions, moderately deep character customization, purchasable buildings, and armor/weapon/accessory/item crafting. This project, by myself, ive been working on for almost 4 years. Thats why I decided to start a team.

I havent really decided if it would be either freeware or retail, but its aiming toward the retail side if it turns out really good.

The compensation will not be payed up front. However, pay will be sorted out when it is sold.

As for technology Im not quite sure what I will choose. Abyssal Engine and Realmcrafter have came to mind, but Im still searching for a good engine without paying a fortune to get it. If I do pay for an engine that costs a fortune, it will be payed on as a group, not singly on one person.

I need people who are dedicated to creating a game. The positions that need to be filled are:

-Concept Artists
-Modelors
-Audio/Composers (Includes music and voice actors)
-Animators
-Anyone into environment creation
-Writers of any kind
-Scriptors

Pretty much anyone that can part-in with creating a game I would need. Along the experience line I would need at least a moderate amount of experience.

We currently have only 3 people (as far as i know) in Beheaded Studios. They are:

Voodoorobert(me) - Producer
James - Co-Producer
Matt - Co-Producer

My site is here

We havent done any previous work.

I don't have much else to say, but I would really appreciate it if we could get some help. Thanks!

I am starting to notice that none of the engines people have been mentioning for running 3D games seem to me to achieve the kinds of functionality that I am used to in a game engine.

At least one of those mentioned above refers to itself as a game development engine rather than as a game engine, but at least one of them does also use the term game engine.

It is just that 3D engines have not yet achieved the sophistication of 2D game engines, isometric (2.5D?) game engines and 2D game engines?

For example, I recall a seemingly now unsupported (and uncompileable) game engine for two dimensional hex map based wargames for Xwindows ("Xconq") many years ago even that let you simply tell it about your units and which could build which and how much damage each does to each in combat and so on and presto, you had a game. That, to me, is a game engine.

Or consider Battle for Wesnoth. Again you tell it about your units and what story text and images to open a scenario with, tell it where your map file is, how many sides you want and what kinds of units they can recruit and again, presto you have a game. You can get more complicated with all kinds of optional additional commands (an entire Wesnoth Markup Language) in the scenario file but those mostly simply extend the power of the engine beyond being simply an engine for conducting battles between units you design.

Thus for a 3D "game engine" as distinct from a 3D toolkit I was envisioning something that maybe afteral does not yet exist? Something where you tell it here are my 3D models of my units, here are my 3D models of my objects, here is how much damage units take at each level (and likely what model to use to display them when they reach that level), here is how much experience it takes them to reach that level, and stuff like that.

Or consider MUDs. They use a MUD driver instead of a 3D graphics engine and a MUDlib instead of hmm not sure, I guess the "glue" between the driver and the actual objects the game engine will use to run whatever games that MUD engine (driver plus lib) will eventually run, which typically can be built by "wizards" inside the game without the need to hack at the driver or the lib.

Are such engines not yet built? Or is it just that they are all proprietary and their owners don't release the engine just specific games they made for it (maybe with some kind of anti-modding protection so others cannot sell mods for it aka new games that use it)?

Are all the "libs" (the stuff that turns a 3D engine into a game engine) so inflexible that they cannot support the vast majority of the actual games people want to create?

Nice website. Any new updates coming for your website? How far is your project now since the August 14 update of the pictures? Any storyline developed? Any characters created?

I haven't really updated my website as much as I should. I'll update it soon though.

My project isnt very far from the update in August. I have created history within the game (which includes characters) but I havent created a good sum of characters yet.

Hello

I have noticed you do not have a website. Us here at Slayer Studios can make a complete custom designed website for you and then give you your own domain name. The charge is $10 a month for the domain name with privacy protection, and for us to design the website $40. You may also request the files or for us to setup a .co.cc for your domain. If you want our portfolio please send a message to our support team at webmaster@slayerstudios.net.

Thanks

I am not entirely sure what is going on here, but perhaps an additional rewrite of the OP is in order?

I don't know if your game is aimed to be singleplayer, multiplayer, or massively multiplayer.

The goals and purposes of the game have me lacking information.

Need more input.

Have to say, if your going to have a website, at least make it somewhat presentable.

Looks like a very young company, what do you expect? I just wish there was a separate forum for hobbyists and young enthusiasts who will pay "profit share".

Good luck with your project voodoorobert!

A separate forum for hobbyists and young enthusiasts is a great idea!

Is it really necessary to have 1 producer and 2 co-producers? I wouldn't want to be a part of a team where I share my % with 2 co-producers. Isn't part of being an producer to take on some financial risk by using their own money, especially during the pre-production period, before the game is fully financed?

If not; what are you producers doing all day? How do you justify your share of the potential income?

I'll look into that. My producers are trusted friends so I havent really thought of putting a budget plan together. that and I just started.

Then how are you even a producer? Please clarify -- are you just the idea guys, or is there money involved?
