Team name:
Kinou Games

Project name:
Mitsumata

Brief description:
????(Mitsumata), which means “three-forked”, is a dark horror fantasy interactive/mixed media game that throws you into the lustrous story of several very different people on two sides of the social coin. On the one hand, you have Humans, the highly intelligent, quick-evolving masters of their world, and on the other, a race called Majin, a language-capable race of humanoids and semi-humanoids who, though stronger than humans, are forced to hide themselves and blend in so that they may have the most basic of peace in their lives.

Shortly put, Mitsumata is a visual novel with some RPG elements to add flavor in it. This is the second game by Kinou Games, and as the first one was finished just this summer, the development of this project has only just begun. However, due to the decision to use an existing visual novel engine, we have the basic systems working already, which then allows us to concentrate on customizing the engine to meet our own needs. But because of the tight schedule we're on, we need a capable Python programmer who can tweak said open source engine/work with scripting to help us finish in time (by Christmas).

Target aim:

Retail

Compensation:
This is not for me to say as I'm not the leader here, but a job well done shouldn't leave you empty handed. For more information, direct any questions you have to our team leader (see contacts).

Technology:

Python. The engine we're using (Ren'py) is a cross-platform one and uses its own Python'ish scripting language. Pygame is also worth mentioning.

Talent needed:

One Python programmer who's skilled enough to help us speed up the engine tweaking and scripting process.

Team structure:
Most of the several people that worked on Kinou Games' first title are working on Mitsumata, too, which means we have an art group (audio & visual) and a couple of programmers (I being one of them).

(Pardon for the vague description, but I'm just a code monkey and there are some things I don't know jack about. So again, if you have any questions, direct them to our team leader (see contacts))

Previous Work by Team:
Papa Pirate, Baby Bandit (PPBB), a princess maker game of sort, finished this summer and should be available for ordering soon. Most of the team that was involved in creating PPBB are also working on Mitsumata.

Just adding to this:

We're looking for a programmer to work on the front-end and as a gameplay programmer. We want to implement several minigames to spice up the game, as well as puzzles (so puzzle makers are extremely welcome!) Basically, you program effects that make games pretty; fading, zooming, lighting effects, whatever you can think of. Gameplay is both static and active, so it'd be great if you had experience with both and pygame.

Compensation is on the back-end from profits, and we can absolutely discuss your percentage upfront.

The game does have a budget that is being provided for by the group.

The game will be dual language, with professional translations, voice acting, and singing.

Have you tried to contact Renpy's developer, who's engine you're using for free?
Not implying that you didn't, but it always angers me to see people who don't bother to support indie developers. Also, there's a forum dedicated to Renpy developers, so you're probably better off posting there, and paying less for more experienced programmers.

We're not looking for a Ren'py developer; we're covered on that front. We are looking for someone who is talented enough in Python to develop and customize the engine outside of its current capabilities and limitations, the latter of which there are several, especially on a visual effect level. We're also well experienced with the forum, and the vast majority of developers there are young and only use its most basic scripting and definitely cannot do what we are looking for.
