Brief description:
[color="#1c2837"]My uncle and I have been studying the New Testament intensively for the past year or so, and have been inspired to create a video game based on central ideas of the New Testament. We feel the video game format will be effective in combining fun and interactivity to achieve a greater understanding of the Bible and so this is our medium of choice. Both my uncle and I are very creative and enthusiastic; however, we both have very little video game design experience.

Target aim:
We are not sure at the moment whether to distribute it as shareware, freeware, or via retail.

Compensation:
We will be trying to raise money, and can hopefully give compensation. Otherwise, this project will be hiring on a volunteer basis.

Technology:
The cheapest method possible. We're not sure at the moment.

Talent needed:
Programmer
[color="#1C2837"]Artist
[color="#1C2837"]Sound designer

Team structure:
Adam; Jay - write the story and give creative input. We will direct those hired as to what we want accomplished. We will allow some creativity on the part of those hired if the project stays true to our vision.

Contacts:
Please PM me if interested.

Previous Work by Team:
None.

Additional Info:
[color="#1c2837"]We foresee 7 stages in which the player is tested into following the Devil and must make the right decisions in order to escape 'The Land Where Everything is Wrong' and must accept Jesus as the messiah.

There are many cheap engines out there that can help you build this game. Flash could be an appropiate choice. I am not sure what the game will look like, but it sounds like the story and interaction is more important than high-end graphics and sound. So maybe Flixel (http://flixel.org/) or Gamemaker are good starting points (http://www.yoyogames.com/). I think you both might be better off if you try to create the game yourselves with one of these technologies instead of trying to get a team together to build it for you. You don't have to be a genius to build a simple game, and if you can spend a year intensively studying the Bible, then I am sure you have the patience to figure out how to build a simple game.

As DogmaDZ said, this is probably something you're better off finishing yourself using a simple game scripting engine like Gamemaker.

I don't want to discourage you from starting a team, though; working with others can be very rewarding, and a good team can create a system of self-motivating feedback.

This was a fair place to start, but might not be the ideal setting to look for a team for this kind of project because this is a very special interest project (Liable to be of interest only to "hard core*" Christians), and because that interest is going to be comparatively rare in the game development community. You might try also posting in a community where that interest is the foundation of the community (e.g. a Christian forum) and from there search for programmers.

I've known many "Hard core*" Christian programmers, they just usually aren't very interested in games due to the overwhelming abundance of themes which are (subjectively) incompatible with the Christian worldview (Comparable to some reactions against Harry Potter). Certainly, there are many "Mainstream" Christians in game development, but their interests usually do not include Biblical themes or proselytism (in keeping with the majority of the gaming community; high fantasy, science fiction, and war games are more popular).

As a tip: I would suggest Google searching the titles of some recent Christian themed games- that will show you where they are being discussed most, and reveal the gathering places of Christian gaming subculture on the internet. You should be able to more easily join a project, or find people to join yours that way.

*My vocabulary fails me. By "Hard core", I don't mean to imply that levels of faith are different between those and "Mainstream" Christians (both can probably have equal conviction); I'm just trying to differentiate between those for whom it is more strictly a private world-view, and for those for whom it is a distinct every-day interest. No offense intended to either group (I, myself, am not Christian, so this is an outsider's perspective- who has had many Christian friends, both "Mainstream" and "Hard core"). And I also do know that those are not mutually exclusive and that there are CS Lewis's out there- but that's a less common demographic, and it takes a special kind of creativity to bridge the divide (Although if you find one, IMO you've struck gold).

Why is talking about religious demographics so difficult? I feel like I'm writing a legal contract.

Anyway, feel free to PM me if you have any problems and want more suggestions or ideas on where to look!
