Generally speaking, artists won't usually follow direction for free. E.g. they're only interested in drawing what they're passionate about personally if they aren't getting money from it (which is only natural).

If your game already has a theme and/or story, it's very likely that you'll find an artist willing to work within its confines for free.

On the other hand, if you are open to any theme/story (and would allow the artist to create it), you will have less of a problem finding an artist willing to work for free (because in this case, the conceptual tables are turned, and it's more like you're programming for the artist, or as a team effort rather than the artist as an employee).

If the case is the latter, I suggest you make that more clear in the post, and in the title (and change the game to untitled, as the title implies existing and indelible IP that the project is associated with).

If the case is the latter *AND* you're also willing to release in a way that can be monetized (even by way of advertisement in a free game), let me know (by PM), and I'll see if I can hook you up.

Best of luck!
