[heading]Offered C++ Programmer[/heading]
[subheading]Background:[/subheading]
My name is Aaron Fernandez. I am a self-taught C++ Programmer and hobbyist game developer. I'm 22 years old, and will be beginning my major in Computer Science in the winter term.
Experience:
I have taught myself to program in C++ through several books, videos, and open source projects for 3 months. I have a solid understanding of the basics of C++ including:
- Efficient memory usage
- Pointers/References
- Dynamic Memory Allocation
- Virtual Inheritance and Abstract Classes
- Multiple Inheritance
I know my way around the SFML API, which I have been using in my projects and test programs for 2D graphics.
Before I began learning C++, I did coding in a built-in script language for a game called Graal Online with their 'Graal Script 2' (GS2).
[subheading]Portfolio:[/subheading]
1. Graal Online Server: N-Pulse Rebirth
This was a project I co-managed and coded for several months. While it never saw completion, it made significant progress and was what lead me to begin standalone game development. As the lead coder and project manager I gained experience not only in managing a group but in learning the fundamentals of program control flow and design.
2. Battle Tacors
This is a 2D game based on the classic Tic-Tac-Toe. 3 Players (computer AI fills empty spots) play on a 12x12 board, where each player takes turns building their color on a tile. As you earn points by connecting adjacent squares, you can spend them on power-ups which allow you to destroy another player's square, warp your squares, co-build on a square, and many other unique features. While the main content and core mechanics for this are done, it isn't released because I lack a pixel artist to bring it to life.
My next solo project will be a second installation of this game, where winning will involve much more strategy. Many more options will be available to the player, the UI will be much more intuitive and well designed, and the game will be based around a much more complex basis than "get four or five squares in a row to win".
[subheading]Interested Projects:[/subheading]
I'm looking for a simple 2D game to contribute to that I can add to my portfolio. For this reason I am looking for projects that are reasonably sized. I would also like to work in a team to bounce my ideas off other programmers and get feedback on my own code. I am not looking for any financial compensation; I only have a few stipulations:
1. The project must be 2D. I am not a 3D Programmer, and would like to have a few more 2D projects in my portfolio before I begin working on any 3D projects.
2. I will not work on an MMO. Do not message me and ask me to contribute to an MMO project; I am looking for a project that will see completion that I can learn from.
3. This project must have other coders, (if you are still seeking them it is OK). I would like to grow as a programmer, and the idea of working in a collaborative project is to be able to give and receive feedback in order to learn.
I am very flexible and will accept offers from single developers looking to start a group/project, or from any group who is starting or has recently started on a project.
