Hi there! I have thoughts about making a pinball game but there is one problem. A big one... I know how i can do collisons between a flat surface or a circle... But how would one do a good collisiondetection with the big round thing at the top of a pinbalgame... You know when you fire away the ball at the start and the ball goes into that round thing at the top aof the pinball game, very smooth and follows it all the way round. How to do such a thing? Pinball game | V __ / \ <-- This is the round thing that i have been talking about. | | | | | | Any suggestions or ideas are welcomed! How do the "real guys" do it? // Peter - Thanx in advance..

I''m not sure how the professionals do it, but I think you need a CD system that takes the discrete rendering of the ball and flippers into account, and back-calculates the fluid collision point - i.e. dynamic object intersection and it require a simple iterative ODE solver (Runge-Kutta seems popular) to work out the math involved. Luckily, a pinball is the IDEAL shape to work with for collison response. It''s up to you if you want to go so far as to implement a physics engine that applies impulses to the ball each frame and interpolates its motion, or just kinda fudge it.

The trade-off between price and quality does not exist in Japan. Rather, the idea that high quality brings on cost reduction is widely accepted.-- Tajima & Matsubara
