So, I'm sure everyone has heard about Destiny, even if they haven't played it. Now that it's been released, and the reviews are out, I'm curious about what others think of it. A lot of reviewers have criticized the game as being repetitive, not living up to expectations, etc. I personally think it's fun, and I can see room for improvement over time. Thoughts, opinions, criticisms, random comments?
Bungie's Destiny
The first I heard of it was in a thread talking about the unreliability of game reviews.

In my mind Destiny fell prey to the same phenomenon that negatively affected the Titanfall reviews: reviewers love single player campaigns.
Both Destiny and Titanfall are more than adequate in the multiplayer department, and both feel distinctly lacking in the single player campaigns. In Titanfall's case, it doesn't have single player, and the campaign is just a set of voiceovers on a fixed rotation of multiplayer maps, while Destiny has a little more, with campaign maps and the occasional cut scene.
If you are looking for the linear storytelling of Halo, then these games just aren't going to cut it. But if you are willing to take them at face value, then I thing Destiny is a solid purchase, a great way to play with all your old Halo friends, and I'm keen to see what additional content is provided in the inevitable patches and expansions.

Yup.

Lots of games are that repetitive. That doesn't make them bad games.
How many hours did you play games like Team Fortress 2 or Call Of Duty or similar games? They are incredibly repetitive. You have the same map, the same equipment, often the same human players over and over and over and over and over again.
Yet the games sell a bajillion copies and some people will play it 26 hours per day with the same group of friends.
You've also got Tetris and Bejeweled and so many other games that are fun yet repetitive. You matched three. You matched three. You matched three. Guess what, you matched three again!
Repetition does not mean it is a bad entertainment option.
The deeper question is if the game is something you enjoy for entertainment, and if the amount of fun is worth it relative to the time and money involved.
there's also alot of areas that are still locked down it looks like, clearly bungie is in this for a longer haul than giving everything to us at day one, which is fine i suppose as we've still got a lot to do. One thing i think i love is the rpg element to the game, being able to go into an fps pvp with gear i've earned/grinded for is pretty nice change compared to other games where you just make a load out to select from. i think the multiplayer is really where the game shines the best, the co-op planets are nice to explore and play around with friends.
playing alone can be relatively boring however, and for an MMO it'd be nice to have a couple other towns to visit.
edit: also golden gun/blandrunner skills are way too OP in multiplayer(fists of havoc to some extent seems to have some invulnerability frames, as i've point blanked shotgun a couple titans that had no shields as they were in the middle of the animation, only to do nothing to them.)

I agree that Destiny is not any more repetitive than the other games. Plus there's the fact that Bungie will be adding more to the game as we go on.
No one expects the Spanish Inquisition!
