I''m looking for some ideas with what to do with www.creategames.net My initial idea was the most obvious:- tutorials, code and downloads etc but then I stopped and thought some more. So naturally I decided to scrap that idea (there are much better sites doing that such as gamedev.net) Which leads me to this dilemna. What in the lords name do I do with it? Has anyone got any suggestions/comments at all as it would be greatly appreciated! Philip Lutas CEO of Optical Realities

Strangly enough I was just thinking about of an idea I had for a programming site.

We see alot of tutorial sites, and sites that let us download fullsource projects. BUT I think it would be cool if there was a site dedicated to allowing the download of small pieces of code for a dedicated task. Kind of like the sweet snippets series, but a whole code bank.

To give you an idea today I wrote a function that takes two points (a line) and finds the number of degrees that line is from the baseline. All in all I think it was about 5 lines of code with lots of space for readability. Why not have a bank of code for small functions (and big ones too).

That way when someone asks about how to write a timer class you can just direct them to that page and they can download one that has a couple features. If enough people were to contribute it would take the hassle out of writing small functions that preform routine calculations. Also it would allow people to see different ways of doing simple things and maybe that would help better everyones code.

Just an idea. I don''t mind if you take it.

I don''t know, as long as you can get about 10-15 people that have made one or two games you can build quite a library of usefull functions. Maybe a sound class. A Direct3D and OpenGl init class.
I bet most people with a game have these things, but newbies don''t.
A big one woud be a timer class, before I wrote mine timing was a mystery to me, I used to use gettickcount.

I used to go to the supermarket to get my ideas, but then I switched to having organic ideas delivered every week.
