Hello,

I want to get into coding again by programming a 2D platformer to get started, but i don't know if i should use Java or C# with the unity engine.

I am pretty fit with Java, but with c# i have to start from scratch. What do you recommend and why?

Well I guess it depends on whether or not you want to use an engine or write your game from scratch using LWJGL or something similar. C# and Java are very syntactically close to each other so I don't think there would be a problem learning C# from scratch since you already know Java.

If you're like me and enjoy technical aspect of game programming I would recommend to go with Java + LWJGL + OpenGL. But if you're more interested in making games and don't want to worry about writing your own graphics framework etc., then I would suggest you go with Unity. By the way, I haven't tried unity, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

unity is c# only but the syntax is very similar java as Microsoft basically copied java to make c#. but, for best cross platform support (android desktop web IOS ) and the fact that you are 2d i would go java with libgdx and box 2d as the physics engine.

Unity does not support Java. Unity has support for a JavaScript-like language called UnityScript.

UnityScript is being deprecated. Thus, if you want to use Unity, I would recommend using C#.

Hello to all my stalkers.
