Hello! I'm new here, first post actually, but I'm really not into advanced programming. I've just been wondering about this thing. If you want to use a 2d engine to program a world seen from a slight angle from above, how do you make it look realistic and not flat? Is it all up to the artists? Second, if you want a building in this world, which is possible to enter, how do you program so that the engine knows that the character is between the walls. I hope you understand what I'm asking! have a nice day! /Kinten Edited by - Kinten on December 6, 2001 11:20:03 AM Edited by - Kinten on December 6, 2001 11:20:32 AM

this "2D faking 3D from slightly above" viewpoint you are talking about is called "isometric"... look in the "isometric land" forums here at gamedev.net (or the articles & resources section) for stuff related to this.
please don''t think i am blowing off your question though, i just don''t know much about it.
the best i can do is this: to get good looking graphics, get a good artist (and not a programmer)... the thing about being between walls will all fall into place once you set up an isometric engine...
