Welcome!

Yes, this is Really A Studio.

We are really looking for a team. Our goal is to really enjoy what we are doing (developing games!), and do it good. That means we are going to develop really good games.

Goals

Our main goal is to finish a single game. And to make it a good one. That’s it for now, but as semi-serious this sounds it’s actually a task we take seriously.

Of course the long-term goal is to make games until the rest of our lives, because we love them.

We want to run an efficient and organized team, so eventually we do become really an indie game development studio.

But understanding that even though you’re enthusiastic (you should be!), there are real life tasks to be taken care of, so in our early stage all we ask from you is to collaborate, be a part of the process, and do spend a few hours a week on building towards our shared goals.

Who we are looking for

First and foremost, be enthusiastic. If you get at least mildly excited over the keywords “game development” or “i made this game”, you’re qualified!

Now the prefered team composition consists of the following:

  • Artist(s) (2d and/or 3d) - 3/4 (myself included)
  • Programmer(s) - 2/2
  • Game designer(s) - 1/2

Starting out small helps us bond and learn along the path of expanding. Also I’ll be updating this list as soon as a position is filled.

What you’re gonna get

  • Revenue shared across team members in percentage of their contributions
  • Being part of a community with like-minded folks
  • Experience and results you can put into your portfolio

Just out of curiosity, what would be your contribution?

Thanks for reminding me I've completely forgot mentioning what I do, sorry about that.

I'm a 3d modeler, working with both low-poly and high-poly models in Blender. I also have some more extensive experience in commercial graphic design in the product label niche, so I can handle some vector graphics and Illustrator in general.

Hi! I understand that on the "team", there's only you (0/3 + 0/2 + 0/1 = 0 people), is that right?

In order to attract anyone, better throw in examples of your (art)work and add much more details about THE game. Is it just your idea that you'll build A game and that game will be great, or do you already have a concept (at least on paper in details)?

Hi,

Yes, that's correct, as the thread title implies, I'm "looking to build a team".

For the first project there is a detailed concept, timeline, to-do lists, etc. already laid down. It's a simple project, I don't have any delusions that I'm/we're going to build the next Call of Duty or something, what I've meant by the game(s) will be great is that no matter how simple it is, it's going to be polished above the amateurish looking stage.

About the game: The concept is about a 3d fast-paced arcade space combat action game. I see it as kind of a practice project for a newly formed group of people, serves the purpose of establishing a bond between team members, seeing how skilled the contributors are, and to give the team a feeling of "I've done something". Not a game changer, super-duper new never-have-been-done-before idea, but the name of this section is indeed "Hobby Projects". I'd like to reveal further information about the game project to those who apply.

Thank you.

Very well, it's much clearer this way. I was basically saying that your first post was too generic. Mentioning a more concrete project is always better. The problem is that there are tons of generic classifieds like yours, so you need something to stick out and catch the eye of your potential contributors. Keep the attitude about the scope and polish. I wish you the best luck (I can't apply myself) :)

Who are we
Really A Studio (RAS) is an independent game development team. RAS was founded on the 30th of October 2018 as a bootstrap startup with the goal of creating innovative, quality video games. Our incredible team consists of passionate designers, artists, 3D technologists, sound engineers, and content producers from all around the globe working together to create great games. Our first and current project is Astroworks, a singleplayer sci-fi action game set to release in 2019Q1.
We are using 3 platforms for our workflow: Discord, Google Drive and Trello. Further details are going to be shown to you once you’re in the team. Including things like the GDD and other artworks – they’re not that public, we’re not going to throw it at anyone who comes accross, hope that’s understandable.

Concept
Astroworks is a story-driven 3d arcade space combat action game. Fight against a galactic megacorporation turned evil with multiple spaceship choices, heaps of weapons and abilities, featuring tons of explosions! Embark on challenging missions which include fighting against swarms of enemy battle drones, blowing up enemy capital ships, sabotaging factories, spaceship races and more!
Platforms
The game is being made on the Unity3D engine for PC only and will be released on marketplaces like Steam, itch.io and multiple others.

Who are we looking for
First and foremost, be enthusiastic. If you get at least mildly excited over the keywords “game development” or “i made this game”, you’re qualified!
Programmers
- You have at least a slight suspicion on what Unity is and that it gets moved by C# scripts.
- Be cooperative. You’re going to be working with multiple other programmers using the Gitlab repository.
Artists
- We have a few clay models. Most of them are without textures. Can you make textures? Your work would be helped by concept arts.
Game designers
- Level designer, possibly with some experience in Unity.
- Voice actors for characters named like Bad, Good, Cocky, etc…
- Content creators and social media gurus rejoice!
What you’re gonna get
- Revenue shared across team members in percentage of their contributions
- Being part of a community with like-minded folks
- Experience and results you can put into your portfolio

I would like to be part of the team but am not fond of Discord. I understand it would be hard to communicate with the team if not using Discord but I'm willing to communicate here or by e-mail. It gives me the same "stay away" gut feeling Facebook did and I didn't join in that craze, so as far as I'm concerned I'm batting 1000 there and not trying to ruin my streak.

I have worked in call centers and have been complemented on my voice as well and would like to try voice acting, this seems like a good place to get my foot in the door and get started on a portfolio.

Aside from that if you'd be willing to work with someone not using Discord I can offer my assistance with 2d art, textures and game design. I understand 3d modeling and textures although I haven't worked in 3d since the mid 00's in high school, but they did save my blocky house that I made there as an example of what you could do with the software to show classes for a few years after so I understand the concepts. I have the newest version of Unity and am able to navigate it, I just haven't used it too much because I am a complete novice at code and GMS is friendlier to code illiterate people and you can edit the scripts in the software. The work I have saved on this computer and can show is admittedly very cartoony although that is the look I've been trying to work on and polish but I am more than willing to try my hand at more realistic looking things, I think textures would be a good place to start. I can also help with GUI, fonts, logos, etc.
