Well I live in London, Ontario.

But I grew up in Fort McMurray, Alberta. That was the coolest place I ever lived.

Peterborough I believe was founded by Irish imigrants way
back.

Most of the cities where named after cities in England when
they where founded. Others I believe where renamed from more
creative Indian names to cities over there.

But here are some I just grabbed from a map of Ontario:

Catchacoma, Ganaoque, Matawatchan, Nipissing, Whahapitae,
Missisauga, Serpent River, Shequiandah. Some of these are
northern mining towns which kept there Indian names.

I believe there are far more interesting names in other provinces.

Do you have _any_ original town names in North America?????

Last time I checked there were no cities named [FINE I removed new york] or "Toronto" or "Chicago" or "Vancouver" or "Ottawa" or "Los Angeles" (among MANY other names) outside of North America

I''ll bet they don''t have a place called Port Angeles in England... yeah... that''s what I thought.

New York can''t be called original... It''s simply named after York Adding a prefix or suffix doesn''t give you an original name (unless you are very clever)...

And as for New York: it used to be New Amsterdam. So, even the "new" part in the name isn''t original

"Ney York"

Bad example. There is a city called York in northern England. New York was started by dutch settlers and originally called New Amsterdam, but it was changed by settlers from England to new York.

There, I changed my original post. Does that look better now? (besides, I fixed the typo)

Actually my name isn''t Moe, its Joel. I just use ''Moe'' as my screen name.

I think my town was named after the color of dirt along the river. There used to be an old brick making place (not a factory, smaller) that made bricks from the red soil. Vermilion is also another name for a red color. If you go into the park thats along the river valley you can still see some of the red soil.

Kenora sounds familiar. Where is it close to.

Also Ottawa is an Indian ( well, First Nations) word, but its been called at least a dozen other names in its history. Its also were I''m at.
