I am in the process of making a landscape editor that I will be using in a project of mine. I am using height bitmaps to load in and display a height value. The way I am displaying this is by hard coding a HUGE vertex index, and then placing it into a vertex buffer, and using DrawIndexedPrimitive() to display it. However, something is going horribly wrong and though I havn''t even implemented into my actual game coding, just having the render function in my class seems to make my program go wonky. My DirectX program doesn''t even show the cube that I have as a point of reference, and it just exits immediatly. I would really appreciate some help.

Make sure you are not trying to render from a vertex buffer that doesn''t exist, or from a part of the buffer that doesn''t exist, or is of the wrong size. I have done this in the past and it consisted of exactly the same symptoms. (Also for a terrain mesh)

Noting that you''re using index buffers, it would be wise to make sure that they are initialized properly. Something may be going wrong, or misconfigured during the initialization of your index buffers, thus when it comes time to render, it crashes to desktop. If you trap any errors/failures, you should be able to flag where exactly it is gagging before it happens.

I have a height map editor available at my webpage

you might be able to get some ideas from it.
