I''m havin'' a problem debugin'' my dx8 app. I''m only supporting full screen mode, so I initialize it in exlusive access. However, on my errors I call DXTrace, I hear the beep, and if I press space it quits, but I can never see the message. How do I flip to GDI or whatever you need to do to get the Error Message on top?

You can set flags to send DXTRACE output to debugger, or you can restore display mode before using DXTRACE. Debugging fullscreen apps is tricky, and I think the only two good solutions are using a multi-monitor system and remote debugging. It''s easier to write and debug the program in windowed mode and then switch to fullscreen.

I am personnaly doing the following:

In debug mode: I create a small window with all windows attributes. fast and easy to switch windows and go back to VC++ to look at the debug output or any other VC++ debug windows.

In release mode: the window is extended to the extent of the primary monitor, with no border, no caption, no nothing. It just looks like a fullscreen window.

I will switch to the "real" fullscreen mode to get better fps only when the app will be 200% debugged. ( or maybe more )

You can pass FALSE to that last param of DXTraceA() to not popup a msgbox. That''s probably best if you want to work in fullscreen
