As seen on slashdot, the source for Return to Castle Wolfenstein is now available. This is the game source, not the engine source though. Time to crawl out from that rock you''ve been sitting under. RCTW is more or less 6 months old, made by an independent company under id''s supervision, and uses Q3 engine which, surprise surprise, Carmack coded in C too.

Actually, it looks a great deal less "hacked together" than the Quake2 source. There are actually meaningful comments and variable names and I can figure out what is going on in the code quickly. The first thing I thought when I saw it was "Id wrote this? No way, this must be a third-party thing."

I assume by "hacked together" you mean coding style.

LoL tell me about... It is a big rock though, hard to lift. Six months... It''s fairly new then.

I didn''t know it used the Q3 engine (I did know Carmack wrote that engine though )

Yeah Z01 you''re right, I meant coding style.

I''m a bit of a comment fiend. If there''s not a comment every few lines I get upset :-)

I''m still very keen on doing something, but I find it hard to get into C mode after thinking C++ for so long.

That was a **joke**. I have RTCW, I played it, I know who produced it, I know who Carmack is (and that he didn''t write that paricular piece of code), I have the Q1 sourcecode, and I read Abrash''s book about ten times by now...
