tutorials for a newbie?

There are alot of tutorials on games on this site. and there was a specific hands on tutorial forum, which taught Direct X for beginners which showed how to implement a Tetris game

If my memory serves, there was also an excellent tutorial written by Ironblayde, or something like that, on gamedev that went through the basics of Direct Draw. I dunno where it is exactly, but it''s here somewhere It was really big, with like 10 articles or something. An excellent alternative for newbies to DirectX (as opposed to LaMothe''s TTOWGPG book) if you don''t have the cash. Personally, I read both the book and the tutorials and both are useful.

Also, the above poster is right; there was an interactive lesson held on the forums awhile back and while it has since been cancelled, all of the lessons are still there.
